Is there really much of a difference in speed between 88 and 89 N/a?

Is there really much of a difference in speed between 88 and 89 N/a?

1988 RX-7 N/a
HP 146
Average Weight: 2650

1989 RX-7 N/a
HP 160
Average Weight: 2820

The 89+ has more HP but weighs more. So is the 89+ really significantly faster? I have never seen stock times for a 89+, just 86-88.

i dunno for sure but it should be a little quicker. also depends on what class you are comparing...GXL, GTU, base.........

i've only ridden in an 87sport (of the 86-88 cars). it had HKS foam intake, high flow cat, the HKS cat-back, and 16's. with those mods it felt a tad quicker than my car when it was stock. after i got my mods i never raced him but i'm pretty sure it was faster. and even though i have a 91 it is basically the GXL model with leather and all the options. which would make it a bit heavier. thats just my experience though.

I have a 90 GXL, I raced my friend's 88 GXL before. At take off, we were both even. When I hit 5500, i started to pull a little, by redline in 1st, i already have a car length on him. But out of the magazine tests, the 86-88 seeem to do better than the 89-91.

you two should switch cars and race. see if the same happens. It's always good to do that to see if it was the car that won, or the driver.

Yo Goat!

Come down and race me!! I've supposedly got the shiznit NA RX-7, the mighty GTUs. *grin* I've actually raced my buddy in his 1986 GXL and I only really walked him in 3rd. This was before I had my 6port open, and he was running cats. I think you'd go okay, especially when you look how much I spent on my car, and how much you spent on yours. *grin*
