temp readings

on the stock temperature gauge where on the gauge is to hot?

i mean not overheated because thats easy to find. but wheres the safe range and wheres the to hot range.

s4's usually sit around 1/4 or 1/3 up the gauge.

Imho, it's not so much topping out the gauge as how long it's topped out. I've briefly topped out the temp gauge on 2 s4s and an s5 and there was no evidence afterwards that any harm was done. The motors didn't pop and there was no sign of coolant leaks, within or without. Maybe I was just lucky, but it's left me with the opinion that rotaries (FC engines, at least) can handle brief overheating better than seems to be commonly believed.

if you are worried about it you should get an aftermarket gauge. that way you know the exact temperature.

The top of an S4 gauge would be about 230F+. 1/4 of the way up is thermostat temp, which is about 180F.

Stock temp gages are just about useless anyways. There aren't any graduations on them, so who the hell knows what temp the car's running.
