Tein Basic coilovers

Hey guys. im making a drift car, and i am on a pretty tight budget. I was wondering if anyone is using the tein basic coilovers for anything (road racing, autox, drift, Daily driving even.) im not to worried about ride comfort, but i was worried that they are rated at 671lbs-in. and i dont know if that is going to be too stiff. any help is appriciated.

Ian

Some guys drift with the stock suspension and just DTSS eliminators. If your on a tight budget all you need is $50 for the DTSS eliminators and you can give that a try. While you practice with that setup you can save up for some nice drifting coilovers.

i'm using tein h1's, they're a lot less stiff than most coilovers you're going to find. They don't make them anymore though.

You're looking at coilovers that can't possibly work. The Basic's are only offered on the FD RX-7, they're not made for any other generation of RX-7. They won't fit, besides, those rates are way too high for an FC anyway.

i found them on a website and the model was listed for FC. and thats all i really wanted to know is if they were going to be too stiff.

Tein only lists them for the FD, so that site is wrong, when in doubt, go to the source.

If you don't care about ride around the street you can go pretty stiff, but still, if you go to stiff the car will be over sprung and never take a good set in turns. Spec out a stiff but conservative spring rate and then spec out anti roll bars to get the stiffness distribution you want for drifting or autocross, or get adjustable anti roll bars so you can get the car to be neutral, o/s, or u/s depending on what feel you like. Plus if you get a coil over setup you can get an inexspensive set of stiffer springs if you need it. (Of course you can also start too stiff and buy a set of softer springs.)
