Gains from doing this mod are more apparent in the TII model. I think there's a whole thread in the racing subsection N/A performance.

hehe i just did the tb mod but i left the cold start stuff on so no starting problems and no idle problems and i ported it a little. the throttle response was so much better when you punch the gas it jumps for idle to like 4 grand almost instantly and when cruising i can punch it in pretty much any gear and it just goes not like before when there was always a slight hesitation i love it will never go back to having secondary butterfly's
but to each his own

I have never had an idling issue with the TB mod... cold or hot??? I think you need to either adjust the idle screw, the BAC valve or crack the throttle plate set screw
Its called a dashpot, it is supposed to stay there and you'll never have idle problems comming to a stop. Not everyone does the same tb mod and it definately shows through on the results. I have ported mine but retain the secondary butterflies. I have a standalone and the butterflies are triggered at a certain pressure to open (custom setup) and it makes a world of difference cruising at high revs and driving around town. You'd never know I had an 8.5lb flywheel with lightened rotors (8.5:1) other than how fast it revs.
Like any modification, its the attention to detail that shines through.
Several writeups exist, but I have noticed that they all are different. I never actually followed one when I did mine. I just did what I felt was best for what I had. I am a diy kinda guy + I have a few unmolested tbs' that I can switch out if I want.

I'll have to find my pics. I ported my tb on my 86 NA and i noticed a little gain. I also don't have cold start problems. maybe i'm just lucky. I tend to do alot of things people say won't help but with my car almost stock and i garuntee it'd do 14s in the 1/4. i think every little bit helps.
i ported the hell outta mine on a 88 n/a and never had a prob with it at all but deff use the 3/8 np plugs dont use anything else
