Talk me out of this
if you can't afford it, i don't know if i would want to keep a car that needs a lot of work. The only way I see you keeping it is if you are just going to end up buying a junk car that will end up costing you just as much to fix up, then there is no point in selling it...

it is my dd but i cant come up with cash to buy another car if i tried im already like 2000$ into this car if i wasnt so afraid of messing something up is swap the motor from my parts car..
If it doesnt worth anything, why sell it?
if it still moves and can get you to point A to B and thats what you can do right now(as DD), just keep it as is.
Wait until you have the money & passion to work on it.
Like me, I got 3 cars, do I need 3? not at all. Do I have money to mod them all? nah Im no bill gates.
But I like working on it, and after I fix something that I thought I would never learn 5 years ago, ahh, that smile on the face is just priceless.

It's an S4, set it on fire and push it off a cliff.
But really, if you have the space, just hold on to it until you're in a better position to get stuff done with it.

When I couldn't afford to keep my 7 on the road I bought a $600 '89 corolla and drove that for a year or 2.
now that my rx-7 works and I have another daily driver it looks like this:

don't ask me how that happened...

o originally wanted a ae86 corrolla but then i saw an fc at the track and fell in love but the only car id be able to get that cheap around here is a civic and at that point my fc would be put on the back burner cause civics are too cheap to make fast
where do you live? you can find dirt cheap corollas everywhere...
if it gets you from A to B and you dont have enough money for another car right then just keep it... i understand about you being scared to work on it, go get a repair manuel or download the FSM... Working on cars is alot easier than people think... im not saying that its super easy but its not super hard either
It's not hard at all to do an S4 > S4 engine swap. If you have even the slightest mechanical know-how and a decent set of metric sockets and wrenches you'll be set. Download a copy of the shop manual and read, read, read. And as for people to help you... well... friends are over-rated in my experience. If you want it done bad enough you can do it yourself. I've done two engine swaps (going on 3 as soon as I find the cash) by myself with nothing more than a basic mechanic's toolset. If you love the car, then do it. If you can't bring yourself to do it, then don't. As a fellow 7 owner, I'd urge you to go for it. At the very least it will be a learning experience.
I second downloading the FSM's, both the S4 and S5 and reading them along with the FAQs. And if in doubt when considering a project, that's what the search button is for. If you're still stuck, ask one of the saintly admins to get you in the right direction.
Most projects are pretty straightforward, though the idea of turning your own wrenches sounds daunting to most new owners (we all thought so at first). Don't let anyone tell you that your S4 N/A is junk. If you read up, you'll find that the S4 has quite a few advantages over the S5, like a mechanical OMP, clutch-type LSD, lower compression rotors (better for forced induction swaps)
To give you an idea of what's possible with a S4, look up Aaron Cake's Project TIINA threads

Replacing vacuum lines, which I just did, is very easy relative to other upkeep of the engine. There's only a few things to know beforehand. And what does "plug pulling" mean?
I actually bought my corolla in dundalk though, so they're around, you just have to look.
what's wrong with the S5? It almost seems like it would just be easier to just fix that one

everything I've read about S4 -> S5 swaps seem like they're a big pain, but if you have the entire parts car, I don't think it would be too bad.

just couldn't do it
