Taking it to the track.
Taking it to the track.
Im taking my Turbo II to the track tommorow.
I have never raced before, even driven this car hard.
Things done:
Cone air intake
Stock exhaust gutted (and lumps removed from Precat)
Re grounded everthing
No coolant lines in TB
Ported wastegate and manifold.
Mabey Ill chip the ECU if I get motivated.
My questions are:
How should I launch?
When do I go.... :p
Any any restrictions I should watch out for qualifying to race, like battery straped down or???
Thanks.

Launch RPM's will vary depending on your clutch, shocks, tires & track conditions.
Try different revs anywhere from 3k-5k.
You will be suprised at how much more grip you get at a real track compared to the street.
Your power is near the limit of the stock clutch, so don't feather it or it will burn.
Talk with other drivers about how to cut the lights.
Short shift to 2nd just as you pass the tree.
Don't miss 3rd.
Have fun.
Talk with other drivers.
Nail 2nd, don't rush 3rd too much.
Have fun.
Repeat the above all day.
Go home exhausted & smiling.

your going drag racing (straigh line) or auto cross (turns, straights,u turns) i personally think the rx7 belongs in the auto cross event due to its great handling but hey everyone is open for something good luck and have fun make shure you dont miss 3rd....

I laughed when you kept posting that, because I still sometimes have a problem missing third and going into fifth
Guess that's what I get for auto-xing more than I drag race, but it's all good
Missing 3rd can be an issue for me too, need new shifter bushings bigtime.
I can't wait to get her back to the track, I should be getting the Mazdaspeed diff mounts any day now, so no more wiggle going around corners, the diff is pushing around the toe steer and is pretty scary at times...
As far as launch strategy, basically you need to see where you are getting boost so you'll have minimal spool up. With blown rear shocks I was hooking up almost immediately but because of the movement in the car, it was only good for a 2.1 60', should be able to do much better with the Koni's and Suspension Techniques combo I've got on there now. I think I was slipping the clutch at about 3500 rpm, but I'm down at sea level, depending on altitude it might take a bit more to not bog. Temps will also have a lot to do with it, as well as your rear tires and pressure.
I'll agree with short shifting 1st... basically you want to get your revs up so you'll be in boost in 2nd, and then you want to shift... otherwise you'll hit the buzzer (which scared me pretty badly the first time I launched it, had been babying it up until that point.)
My personal best run was 14.7 @ 94.78, my partner who is much smaller than me ran a 14.5 (don't have that slip so I can't remember the mph offhand, but there is a 150lb wieght difference between us. We killed the stock clutch that night, but I think we could've got to a low 14 with a few more runs. We were running street settings on the tires 35 psi... Just wanted some numbers and they were a lot more impressive than I was expecting with just an intake and the precat gutted and an FCD.
I agree with the assessment that the FC is much more happy doing corners, but the straight line stuff does have it's place too. Good practice.

Oh my clutch sucks.
I think im just at that point where i need to upgrade....
First launch-
16.7
Reaction .875
Reved to 2.5 and released- whole cre BOGGED down to 1k and lurched.
Second-
15.3
1.0 RC
Better, but I could be in the 14's
Thrid-
Munched the shifter bushing
16.5
.475 reaction
Hurm not bad for the first time in a long time!
Hopefully Ill pull a 14 out of my *** next time with good tires.
