what are you trying to accomplish? you don't need to remove the pinion to get to the LSD.

im trying to find out if this is a real LSD or if someone just welded the spider gears. i picked it up at the junk yard today and i dont have any real way of finding out. this car was covered in stupid ricer looking "turbo" stickers and the hood was gone. thats the only way i knew off the top of my head to tell since the interior was trashed. if there are markings on it i can find to tell me then i wont need it open. the ony thing i knew to look for on that was the tag about the fluid but there was no tag any where.

there should be a tag on the housing stated it has an lsd and to use the right fluid. also looking at the VIN can help give clues about the car.

umm i guess. let me go take a picture of it. it works like an LSD but maybe that was just a coincedance and its really not. i wasnt too sure if it was an LSD or maybe someone welded the spider gears

ok so i fliped it over and found the tag. it was competely caked in dirt and crap that must be how i missed it before. but i spraied it off with some brake cleaner and it said limited diff gear oil.

so now my question is what type of gear oil does it need? and will i need a new gasket or something since i opened it even thought i couldnt get it apart all the way?

It should be 80w90 GL-5 Gear oil and a tube of Friction Modifier (additive for LSD).

You can get away with using RTV.
