Tach help
Okay i read like a bazillion posts and couldnt find anything that helped me at all, i got an autometer tach for next to nothing just to see how accurate the stock gauge is, so heres the problem. Either the stock gauge is WAY off or im an idiot. I know its hooked up right, red power, black ground, green signal(trailing coil), white illumination, set for 4 cyl, thats all right, but compared to the autometer tach the stock tach is reading high by about 500 rpms, could it be off by that much? the gauge custer in my car is not the original one so im wondering if thats bum and the am tach is right? Also this might explain why i cant get my idle right, by the stock tach its set to 750, but it idles like crap till i get to or a hair above a grand, if the stock one is 500 or so off, that would mean my idle is set way to low and would explain that problem, before i go messing with all this i wanna get some opinions and advice, thanks in advance.

Black wire, black plug, its a female plug, its the one the fsm says to hook a tach too for tuning, and 6 cyl huh? i have always read to set for 4 cyl, ill have to pull it out and try six, its a big ol autometer, one that you gotta cut the wires on the back to set it. Good thing i didnt cut them short like i was planning, theres enough to splice together. Thanks Icemark, and sorry bout the bump, i was worried about my baby (car). I was about to send you a pm with my problem cause i didnt want to bump again

Should be the Yellow/Blue in the diagnostic connector at the trailing (rear) coil pack assembly.
The leading coil diagnostic plug, has multiple fires and wasted spark as well as advances and retards. You do not want to use that wire.

Okay, i did not know that, i dont really trust the stock tach in anything to much, but the new one being off so much made me doubt that it was working properly, i do not like the look of monster tachs on dashboards so i mounted it in my glove box lol, i never put anything in there anyways
