t2 swap, got it running with problems

anyways i finished my swap from an 87' na to s4 t2 engine, i'm using the na wire harness. so i went to start the car, it wouldn't start so i messed with the timing and it started. It started BUT THEN it idled all the way to 65K on the rpm and stayed there. so i panicked and took off the negative and blew my main engine fuse. but back to my real problem, does anyone know why it revved all the way up to 65K on idle? please i need to get this car running. the car is completely stock, with all emissions.

Because the throttle plates are wide open.

If the throttle plates are not open, then it must be a open hole AFTER the throttle plates. Make sure the hoses on the back upper intake manifold are on. Like the brake booster line back there and the three/four *vacuum* lines.

I'm letting you know, even if the throttle plates are barely cracked, that can cause the rpms to shoot to very high rpms. You said they were closed, but look again. Don't worry about that outer set of plates, they won't matter. It's the inner set of throttle plates that MATTER. And don't screw with the screws.

Ummm i know i don't have a t2 but i have a n/a and I had the same problem there is probably a vaccum leak somewhere I can tell you that when i started it I had to keep my foot on the gas and the bad thing is I probably wasn't get enough fuel or either the fact i wasn't getting enough air.

Possibly a vacuum leak. Check all lines, and *listen* for air sounds while the car is idling. Thats how i've always found my major ones... use the ears.

Dunno if you set the timing accordingly, but grab a timing light and make sure your timing is correct. Also, make sure you're getting spark on all plugs

yeah i can't listen for vacuum leaks yet because my car has no exhaust and it sounds like a motorcycle right now. but if you guys know of any other method for checking vacuum leaks then let me know. and i do get spark on all spark plugs, and where do i get a timing light from?

ANy auto parts store, you can get a cheap one for 35 bucks. Or rent one from autozone for free i believe?

Get a boost guage/vacuum guage. That will tell you if you have proper vacuum at idle

you can rent tools for free kinda from auto zone you pay for it and pretty much return it and they give you your money back.. running a turbo with no exhaust will cause the turbo to creep up pn boost. hook up a boost gauge and see if your making boost.

I had a tight throttle cable that caused it to rev to 5k on start up. I just adjusted it and blam, it worked.
