Depends...

racing: I would say (in this case what I do) is: rev to 4k.. dump the clutch take off..

normal everyday driving: hm, I shift when my shift light comes on...

I dunno if this helps you any.

Well, I have an n/a, don't know if that makes a difference where you take off or not.

I would still say about 4k and then dump the clutch (street racing)

I'm not sure if that'll do any good at a drag strip. I haven't gone with my car yet... I'm sure the other gurus on here can be more of help though!

4k seems ideal for both TII and n/a

Best launch: limit of best traction vs. limit of maximum power output from engine.

As simple as it sounds, this is very tricky, especially in powerful cars. Since there is also something in the middle (clutch/flywheel) between engine and tires, you can control their "relationship" by the use of the clutch pedal, but that of course wears down the clutch disc VERY fast...

Launch at 3,5K (when turbo has started building up considerable turbine speed -> boost) for "normal" quick launches, or 4,5-5K while feathering the clutch for hard-core strip or "bet" launches (the latter will require a new clutch after a while )

After 1st gear the rest is -almost- obvious, except that you need to control your car from going sideways

i find that on all 7's iv driven dumping the clutch isnt the best thing to do. it tends to bog you slightly unless you rev really high. best thing to do is slip the clutch a bit so you get steady acceleration. when you do it right you feel it cause there is absolutely no bogging and its GO! GO! GO!

I used to launch at 4000-4300...good luck....I'll show you when I get mine up again.

rotaries have VERY little rotating mass, so unless you do it absolutely correct, you'll either bog or spin the tires.. especially if you have a light flywheel. I'd say feather the clutch (yeah it'll wear out quick).

I have a 9lb flywheel and twin plate OS Giken clutch. I rev to about 4500 and slip the clutch. Very little slip, to none, and the car just hunches back and takes off. My car doesn't bog or spin it's tires at this RPM. It also seems like the perfect speed for the turbo, and the RPM's just drop slightly, and I'm off at full boost as soon as possible.

w/ a decently modded turbo (stock turbo tho) The best launch is at 3100 with a dump. Dump doesnt mean to just pop the clutch out (that will make it bog) it means just to let it out quickly. Or at least thats what makes it go the fastest. Ive tested this out on my car btw.

Using Hoosier Quick time Pros I found that my car likes to leave at about 6500rpms. When the car takes off its will stay at about the same rpm for like the first 50ft then imediately shoots up to 8000rpms. Works great. My best 60ft time was a 1.71 with 14psi of boost.

As 1fastT2 said it all depends on what kinda traction you have in the rear, I find that on my street tires I can only launch at 2.5k to 3k, if I launch any higher I'll just spin the tires and site there, and usally bog down, but I'm sure if I had some slicks I could prolly launch around 5.5k to 6.5k, hey 1fastT2 you popen any wheelies yet?

HAHAHA, funny you said that. With the new suspension and 20psi I was wondering how its going to launch. It will either break(most likely) or get close to pulling the front wheels off the ground. That would be awsome but im probally kidding myself.

What about your motor mounts, diff. mounts, axle, and rear end?
Has anybody modified those to withstand the stress of launching?
I'm curious, because last year, using Nitto DR, I revved to 5k, dumped it and immediately hit ignition cut on my Haltech.
Limped down the track and realized I had broken both motor mounts in half anf tilted the engine, blowing my tranny.
It seems like the more traction you have, the more things start to break?

man on both my t2 i would start the launch at about
4k and at half gas and soon as 3500 or the cluch started to grab just mash the gas and it seams not to bog and no just a little tire spin i had a guy in gsx blow his cork saying i had trac contol after a race it was funn i told him to fiend it for me so i could take out the extra lbs
i jumped him on the 60 ft but he smooked me in the end

Get a dyno. You will know where your powerband begins and ends.....
