Suspension problems

Hello all yet again, here's my current problem:

When driving around at about anything over 15mph and I hit a bump, it seems like the whole rear end of the car 'walks' to the right, it feels pretty damn strange like it's just jumping right up to the right. I noticed the shock was covered in oil (doh) So I'm guessing it's probably dead and needing replacing. Could this be the cause? The tranny and differential mounts are all in perfect condition.

Sure signs it's a goner. While you're under there, check bushings also-DTSS, if you still have them, etc.

So which is it, shocks or toe? And how hard are they to get out?

For the DTSS you need a special replacement bushing you can get from just about anywhere that has 2nd gen stuff. As for the shock, if it's covered in oil, it's definitaly blown. Unless you know what you're doing, you should have a pro do both of these.

shocks aren't really that hard to do but be super super super careful when using a spring compressor

Well, this *still* doesn't answer what the cause can be. It's not 'compeltely' covered in oil, but it has about one side that's kind of caked with it. Anyway to test either of these things?

Go to the corner that has the blown shock (trust me it is) and push down on it and bounce it a few times. When you stop, it should stop almost immediately. If it keeps bouncing, then it's blown. As for the DTSS, I think you need an alignment rack to check that.

Jack it up under the rear shocks. That way it will be as if on level ground. Check all bushings and wheel bearings also. See if you get any movement in the wheel when rocking it. Also the "bounce" test is extrememly hard to detect a bum shock, as it's wrapped with the spring, and the suspension is stiff, but as stated before, shock probably gone. Remove shock assembly, take spring off (compressor) and then see if shock has any resistance.

All of the bushings seemed to be in good condition, I shook the wheel and it wouldn't move side to side or anything. Any idea's on how much new shocks would run?

AutoZone-$35.00 each as long as you don't have the Auto Suspension.

Well, I have shocks and springs from another car, can I just move the entire assembly over?

Is it another RX-7? I don't think you can just arbitrarily move stuff around like that...

Yeah, it's another RX-7. I don't think it's the shock, it doesn't make sense that it'd move so hard to the left only at 10-15 mph when i hit a bump. Any other ideas?
