Question SuperTrap?

Anyone using a SuperTrap on their FC?

If you are going to reply telling me how that'll never work because of heat issues or whatever, please don't bother. Unless you've tried it and KNOW first hand, of course.

I think no one has tried this because we all know that our cars will eat a ST for lunch. I did see a guy at the track with one. By the end of the weekend the car was noticably louder. For the money the superflow is the best, be it ugly...

I've just built a '78 kit car(turbo11 engine) using a 3" stainless exhaust, racing beat premuffler(from the turbo exhaust setup) and a supertrapp 3" in, 4" out muffler.
It sound great! Sound kind of like the old '60s racing Healeys, nice and deep. I don't have to many miles on it, but with the supertrapp you can take the end off and replace the insides or custom make the stuffing from stainless steel wool(any hardware store has this.) Also if you want to go racing you just pop the end off and get loud!
With the stainless steel option, I don't see any reason for not using the supertrapp. I'm thinking of putting them on my '86 base.

I was going to run them on my old turbo CRX, but never got around to it b4 I sold it. I love the design of them. I like the option of taking out the whole end, and having free flowing at the track. I say go for it, and then let us know how it workes out. Be different, stray away from the flock.

Supertrapp exhausts work by adding or removing baffles at the exhaust tip. Racer's used to love em, because they could quicly tune their car for either backpressure or sound. They were suprisingly free flowing for their time.

Fortunately, we now have better ways to damp sound other than adding backpressure.

I ran supertrapp's on my old race car, they were economical and didn't fail. But there was a power increase with the newer exhaust system, and no sound level increase (which is important at the race track, because they will take away your win if you break sound).

My advice, buy them if you like the retro 60's look. Thats when supertrapp made their name. They have been able to hold onto their name because they were somewhat of an industry leader for many years, the last 10 or 15 years, newer technology has taken the forefront.

Speedjaw.. What are u talking about. A streight pipe is a streight pipe. No matter how old it is the power level will be the same if im not mistaken. Or did u mean when the silencer is in with the noise level being the same as with a free flowing streight through muff the same? I dont know what I just said so figure it out.

There's no need to be a jackass. EProd has more first hand knowledge of making an FC go fast than you'll ever have.

As a fellow EP racer I will concur that Suprtrapps are garbage if you're looking to make max hp and keep your car under 103db.

However, they do have the benefit of tunability, so if you have a dual purpose street/track car they might be useful.
