Supercharging a 86 GXL NA
After careful deliberation and research I decided a turbo isn't the best idea for me. I've been looking into a supercharger kit for my car but I keep comming up empty handed. The only people that seem to be able or willing to do it to a rotary is atkins rotary and they use a carborated method but I want to keep fuel injection with a programmable controller. So anyone know any kits or any people to talk to about supercharging my 1986 GXL?
This topic is covered a lot in this forum. Camdem does make some nice bolt-on superchargers, but they are really expensive.

If you are handy enough I guess that you could always make up your own system with a Vortech (spelling) centrifugal (again) supercharger. These unit are kinda small and MAYBE could be put in place of the air pump. Just a tought. You would have to adress fuel delivery system also.
Do a search, I think this have been adressed many times here.

Atkins has a fuel injected supercharger on one of there cars. You may want to contact them and find out how long until they start marketing them, if they are even planning on mass producing them. Also, it could be possible to use a custom made throttle body that has fuel injectors. You could run it with a stand alone engine management system like a Haltech because it comes with its own TPS, air temp sensor, boost pressure sensor, and coolant temp sensor, controls injectors and spark timing. It all depends on how much money you can put into it.

I have heard of people doing this modification, and here is a link to the best described one:

I have also seen a lot of posts on the subject, and it would not surprise me if an inventive person may some day buy:
used Eaton Supercharger (M45 or M62):

Vortech Super Fuel Management Unit
Pullies and brackets
S-AFC
Upgraded injectors and fuel pump
Boost guage
Etc...
and create their own kit for around 1.5k...
The Eaton unit sounds interesting, because it can create boost all the time and has a solenoid to control when the engine is exposed to boost. Check out their web site...

Im keeping my eye on the camden EFI kit. As long as they are making about as much HP as they do with a carb (~270) and are reliable to 7-8k rpm, I WILL buy one over this winter. I really cant wait....finally my car will be fairly fast
