Is my 2nd Gear synchro out/going out?

Hey all --- after numerous times in trying to shift fast from 1st to 2nd, I've realized that my 2nd gear synchro is probably going out.

I can shift into ANY other gear as fast as hell except for 2nd gear. If I shift fast into 2nd, it scratches, but does go into gear. If I shift slowly and take my time, no scratch, nothing.

Not the best thing to be dealing with if I'm going to race any...

Is this my synchro? Anyone know how much it costs to fix? Thanks guys...

This exact thing happens to me all the time. I've heard several things as in how to fix this problem.
When the person that I bought my car off of redid the current clutch I have he decided it wasn't worth putting the shift bushings back into the transmission. I've been told that the shifter not engaging right could be the problem. I've also been told that the hydrolic system may not be fully disengaging the clutch or that the transmission needs to be rebuilt due to bad synchro's. Which one it is I wish I knew

I brought a 86 base model 7 with 160000 on the clock so the tranny was about to go. I was grinding in almost all gears. I change the gear oil and i help about 50 to 60 %. Right now i am using mobil 1 65 70 gear oil. Since i can't effort a new tranny yet i might try redline gear oil which is a little more expensive but suppostly work the best. The lucas stuff is also pretty good i hear. Hope this helps

I honestly think the 2nd gear grinding is normal. I dont know if anyone can back me up, but I have yet to see/hear of an FC that will not grind slightly on a super-fast 1-2 shift. I just think that the 2nd gear syncho cant handle the transition that fast.

In almost every car Ive raced that seems to be a problem (exept my mx-3)

But if I slam 1rst to 2nd and I slam hard and fast I can hear a grind and I hate doing it to my baby but I love the wheel spin and thrust forward on a 1rst to 2nd shift. My bros 3000gt also does the same thing in 1rst to 2nd and it was a brand new tranny. So yes Im backing you up I believe most cars do that.
