Here is what I did. When I bought the car, the sunroof didn't work. I went to the parts for sale section on this forum and found a lot of people who where parting out FCs. So after purchasing the parts, I took off my roof liner. It's pretty straight forward, just take off all the screws that hold it in place. Be careful not to break the brittle interior plastic pieces. Once that is off just replace whatever parts you need to. Next, open up the sunroof and clean the rails. After that, grease them up. Open and close it a few times, grease it up some more, and repeat.

Now my sunroof works fine. Pretty straight foward. Let me know if you need more specific info.

Close it and don't open it until you decide to fix it for real.

WD40 is only a short term fix, will only work once, and will accelerate the long term problem.

You need to take the sunroof assembly out, then apart. You need to use lithium\graphite grease and *lots* of brake cleaner (I went through 3 cans taking out *alot* of gunk). Hopefully when I put it back in the car the sunroof will work almost as if it was new.

Don't ignore the problem, the gear teeth on the motor might get worn out if you keep using it and then you're screwed.

1) Remove sunroof assembly from car - if you have no clue to do this, get a copy of the FSM.

2) Disassemble sunroof assembly - it helps to have some mechanical skills here.
Notice that one of the "linkages" is stuck in one of the guide tubes.
You have two choices here...
#1 Throw away the seized linkage and guide tube and replace it with a good used one, or
#2 Somehow free the linkage - you'll most likely trash the guide tube - and replace the guide tube with some 1/4" copper tubing from al hardware store.

3) Reassemble reverse of disassembly

Get a complete assembly from a partscar/scrapyard.... I had the same problem.. The sunroof assembly is the worst F=()"/#=) part on the FC. Mine had a broken linkage on the left side..

Now it is leaky *** hell

Mine had the same problem. The cable was snapped. I just do NOT use my sunroof any more...it's kind of a pain in the *** to take apart and ****, and the sunroof is not a major concern for me...personally.

Mine is a piece. One of the motors is going out *in my old FC* and I have to shove/guide/heave and hoe it to the right spots. I just gave up running it....I took the top off, but for the life of me I couldnt' figure out how to get the items out of the track....just boggled my mind. So yeah, I'm apparently not intelligent enough to fix it.

do what RETed says or continue to complain like 98% of the FC owners (1% man up and fix it, 1% of us do not have sunroofs.)
