Sudden Car Trouble @ 100MPH 86N/A
I hope someone can help me. I was driving on the freeway and did a 70-100mph dash to pass some slow *** cars with bad alignment, and suddenly my engine just cut out. If I put on the throttle it would act like it was stalling. I had to limp the car all the way home like a grandma.
This problem has happened before, but when I was drag racing at full throttle. I would just lift off the throttle for a quick second and then get back on it and it would be fine the rest of the race. This would happen rarely. Now, the problem happens constantly under light acceleration. When I start it up when it's cold, it will stall until it warms up. There is no smoke blowing out of the tailpipe. Also, I replaced the sparkpugs thinking that it might be because they were fouled. They were fouled and black. After I replaced them, the problem did not go away.
I have headers, main cat, catback, intake,TB mod, no air pump, wired open ports, fairly new magnecor 8mm wires, 170k miles. My header is cracked and have no o2 sensor (but has been that way for a while before problem the other day)
What is it? I think it might be a stuffed cat (will check it later), maybe leading ignitor, maybe injectors (which are old), maybe leak around intake manifold.
What do you thinnk?
Thanks,
Rob

Hesitation sounds like it could be the wires but I doubt it if they are fairly new unless they have been under some abnormal circumstances. Fuel delivery and/or cats I would say. I would just clean the cats out, if they are bad you will have to buy a new one anyways later on and could easily fix the problem for now. When is the last time you changed the fuel filter? Also could try some fuel system cleaner to see if it helps out.

ive had a simalar problem, but it only happens when my fuel tank is really really low, i guess the gas gets pushed towards the back of the tank and the fuel pump cant get to it

I just got an 86 that had sat for a while. The fuel pump pre filter had a lot of lacquer on it from the gas. changing that worked, then it began to stall. If I cut the car off, it would drive fine for a while, the cut out until I cut it off and restarted it. The gas tanks was rusting out and the pre filter kept getting clogged. I know you don't want to get into the gas tank, but it may be worth a look. Getting the fuel pump out really isn't that bad.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Must...scrub...parts...
whatever it is, you're running very rich. white sparkplugs means lean, creamy brown is just right, and black is rich as hell. not sure what the solution to your problem is, though
