edit: is this intercooler too big? Also do I want a 2.5 or a 3" inlet and outlet? Thanks.

is that the intercooler you used trav?

Also one of those pics above has a cardboard box in it, that's the IC -- but if you go to my build-up thread, there are a few more pics. Most are a little hard to see, but should give you the idea if you read the descriptions... Thread is in the link in my sig in my earlier post.
Also, from what I've been able to gather, 2.5" pipe is good enough for well over 400hp and even beyond 500hp I believe. IMO 3" is probably just overkill and will be more of a pain to route. Do some searches, I think you'll find quite a number of cars with great HP numbers running 2.5" -- that's why I settled on 2.5"

I'm thinking this kit http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FMIC-...QQcmdZViewItem it's not quite as long as the greddy intercooler so I shouldn't have to cut as much. but I'm worried about the 4" thick core? Thoughts?

[QUOTE=Trav;5664990]My setup:
143.01 -- Bar & plate IC (450mm X 300mm X 76mm -- 3" thick)
46.80 -- 3 to 2.5" Silicone reducers (2)
135.99 -- 2.5" Pipe kit (silicone connectors and t-bolts included)
9.98 -- 3" T-Bolts (2)
----------------------------
$335.78 -- Total cost
I like that a lot. I just bought a core almost identical yours but , I'm looking at these e-bay pipe kits and there are the couple different ones. I seeing the kits with the three different bends (45', 75' and 90' bends), they come with two straight pipes as well plus the t-clamps and all that but the pipes are 18" sections. Is this what you used.
I just bought a kit with the 18" bends and straight pipes, t-bolts, connectors and all that so we'll see. Where did you mount your BOV? I had my Blitz SS between the turbo and the TMIC before I guess I could just keep it there huh?
Any more real specific info on this would be appreciated. In the end it'll just come down to taking time to fit in all in there but I'd apreciate any tips.
Thanks so much. I'll post pics and details when it's done.

I wish I was driving!
I like to weld two small brackets at each coupling, and then bolt them together. The hose seals the pipe, and the brackets keep the pipe from separating longitudinally. Cheap and extremely effective.

IM in the process of fitting one right now. I brought a 600x300 x76mm Bar and plate core. Without cutting anything it fits ok, u did remove the latch support and relocated the light relays etc and i bent the PS cooler lines down a bit to make more room. I have a lip on my front bumper and it sits level with it on the bottom as the end tanks hit the Chassis rails. If i did it again i would get a slightly shorter one maybe 560-580 long as then it would sit up a bit more. Pipe should be a breeze. I have moved my Primary coils up a bit so the twpo top bolts are now the two bottom ones. Hopefully this way i can run the piping between the Battery and the coils and under the PS pump or between it. note 2.25" piping will fit between the pump and the strut towet but nother bigger as it is already a tight fit.

hey man i'm just installing a homebrew frontmount right now and i'll post up pics soon... but heres a little laundry list for ya. oh and a teaser pic
core:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/UNIVE...QQcmdZViewItem
piping:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/3-Tur...ayphotohosting
for that piping kit i just ordered two extra pipes, and the appropriate amount of couplers and clamps... that seller was really good. now i'm routing it like the orange car
then i got a greddy throttle elbow, and the silicone reducers i needed. i don't have a/c, or p/s, or windshield wiperfluid for the front, and i had to relocate my battery but its going to be slick. seems the cheaper you want to go the more direct the routing has to be, meaning the more stuff you have to get out of the way.

I went with a 28.5x5.5x2.5 for a total of $400.
I think you'll need something slightly taller but at least 3" thick.
What I want to hear from you is whether or not it is worth investing in a tall core (tall enough for 1/4 to 1/2 of the IC is above the front opening (no air going to it.)
The setup above worked great on the stock turbo but I am not sure if it's enough for the BNR stage 2 and I don't know if a HUGE core is efficient since no air is passing through. Right?

lol, it's just sitting on there now but will using safety wire to hold it on as soon as I get around to it. Still at the point where I"m installing my fuel cell and wiring upt he microtech.
no, but I did have to make some holes using a 3" hole saw. One of the holes where drilled where the stock windshield wiper fluid bottle was and the other is in the same location but on the other side.

I also happen to have an aftermarket front bumper that has a larger opening, I wasn't sure if I was going to put the body kit on this one or the GXL but if it's needed for the FMIC then that might happen.
My original intentions were to just get the BNR Stage 1 and shoot for a solid 10psi, do you think there will still be lag with this core? I'm not familar with sizing intercoolers and custom turbo stuff, so I'd appreciate any info. Thanks
#49
well I didn't experience any lag with mine but then again yours is more than double the height of mine.
Maybe if you mount it at an angle similar to the Radiator angle you might get the air to hit more surface area but I don't know if the extra weight/complexity of brackets and crap will be worth it.
You can always cut up your bumper.
sorry.

Which core is that? It looks like it fits nicely for some 90 degree bends making the most of the space if you can get airflow to all of that. Looks a lot like the Greddy size.
