Sub zero starting assist system vs winter

Is the cold start system is necessary to start the engine below 16 celcius ? Mine is removed and I have to use my RX7 this winter...

no. The system isn't very good. My car will start in the winter just fine in Chicago and I have ALL of the cold start assist stuff removed (thermal pellet, coolant line through the TB, cold start cam, sub zero assist, even the BAC valve). It may not be quite as cold here as montreal, but it's close and you'll be fine

That was just an offhand comment about using an engine block heater around old, oil leaking rotary engines.

FYI, a block heater is simply an electrical device you plug in and attach to your engine block to heat it up. You don't necessarily "install" them, per se.

I've driven both the older 1st gen and the 2nd gen through the winter here in Michigan without the cold start system operational. So you will do fine as long as the battery is good and you're using a 5W-30 oil. Do not use a 20W-50 through winter

The system never really worked and Mazda issued a TSB for dealers to remove it.

Really, you're worried about the car not starting at 16C?! It's 13C out right now and I'm in short sleeves.

As long as there's nothing wrong with the car, it will fire up just fine regardless of temperature without the necessity for sub zero start systems, jumper cables, block heaters, etc.

2 first gens and current fc have all had no issues in mn. The first gen needed starter fluid one or twice to get it going, could have been flooded however.
