i have an 87 base model (n/a) and yesterday my car started stuttering horribly. at WOT in all gears. mods i have on my car are custom intake piping with a k&n filter (the huge one with the air pump adapter) and a recently installed downpipe. while installing the downpipe i found that it was too short so i have to scoot up the exhausts up a few inches. could that have caused a problem? ive searched all night and all the relatable threads ive came across none of them seemed to have a solution. has anyone else dealth wit hthis before and solved it? what are the possibilities?

did you JUST install the downpipe before the stuttering started and did you have stock cats on it before???

 

When was the last time you replaced the fuel filter?

 

i replaced it the day before yesterday, the day before the stuttering started. i just got this car about 4 months ago, i guess i should start with the fuel system?

 

and yes i did have stock cats on before. i pretty much just replaced the pre cats and left the main cat. it was working fine up until yesterday when it started.

 

Did you hook up your fuel filter the right way? (There's a specific inlet and outlet). Did you accidently swap fuel supply and return lines? Anything else you did to the car right before the problem?

 

i didnt fiddle with anything else other than the precats and downpipe installation. except for scooting the exhaust up a fe winches, i dont recal anything else notable

 

also there was a very small stuttering problem before in second sometimes, but i didnt mind it much because it wasnt this bad. it seems like the same problem but much worse.
