Stupid question about the rotors/displacement.

I'm smack dab in the middle of my rebuild, and while I was cleaning up my rotors, i was thinking: Why can't we bore out the indent on the combustion face a bit to get a little more displacement area? It would create larger "pockets." the only draw back i could see is if oil holes go through there for something, and we'd run the risk of cutting into them..

Is this a stupid idea?

That would just lower the compression. If you want to create more displacement, you need to widen the rotors.

Besides, the rotor face is pretty thin, and by the time you remove enough material to make a difference, it will end up quite weak.

there are no stupid question...only stupid people. At least that's what my fourth grade teacher told me, often. So to create more displacement you would basically have to make the whole engine bigger?

I didn't think about the compression end of things... and I wasn't sure how thick the wall was, but I just got in from looking at the rotors, and, by-golly (WTF DOES that mean, anyway?) you're definatly right about the weakening of it.

Thanks

Minclo - to illustrate Aarons' point, i've taken a picture of my 13b housing next to a 12a housing/rotor that i have sitting around my house for decoration (ignore my dirty housing, it's getting cleaned tonight).

notice the 1/4" inch difference between the two.

Or, more accurately, 10 mm difference between the two.
