stupid question

im about to go for my smog test, my car has never passed in over a year... i was 1100 over the hydro carbon limit... i've read the faq, and read many other posts about it... but i dont have time to get my injectors fixed (which i'm thinking is the problem with the hydro carbons... since they are caused by unburned fuel) my injectors leak.. is there a safe way to cheat this test, im gonna do parts of jrats cheat, but the alcohol thing seems a bit risky to me.... so is there something else i can do for a tempory fix? im gonna work on getting it to run as lean as i can, but theres gotta be more i can do..

thanks,
alan

Hook the airpump straight up to the cat for the test.

yeah, i was actually thinking about trying to run a powerfull air pump like a small auto vac thru it during the test? i wonder if that would make any diff.

Not sure, for my smog test I just hooked the stock airpump straight to the cat after failing 3 times in a row and it dropped the HC's a bunch, not enough for you with 1100 but it helped a lot.

Try this, unhook your actuators and CLOSE your sleeves so the 2 extra ports are closed all the time, lower your idle as low as you can where it's still running, and hook up the air straight to the cat. See how that helps.

Are you sure your catalytic converter is working properly still?

well, im gonna run thru the test with a stock exhaust... i'm gonna put on all 3 of the cats, but im sure they are **** because they are the cats i failed with the first test, but i dont have enough money to replace them at this point... and my other car just died on me, so this will be my daily driver for a while

wait, suppose it's my secondary injectors that are leaking.. is it possible to unhook them for the test? im not sure if they are the leaky one's or not but it might help if they are...
if all else fails, i guess i will just have to run illegal again (did this for a year straight)

Well, if they're leaking and you just unplug them they'll still have fuel flowing through them, they just wont spray, and if they're leaky they'll still leak. You could cuz the fuel off to them if you want to reroute your fuel lines so that it's bypassed, or you could find another way to plug the holes I guess.

im sure the HC will be lower, i got it smogged when i first bought it, and when i take it this time i will have a lot of intake mods, new plugs/wires, all fluids changed, some of that emisions passing gas treatment ****, and gonna be running as lean as i can, airpump hooked to the cat... might just make it after all.

or maybe i could crimp the exhaust a little bit, before the main cat, and run the air pump to the cat.. be blowing 90% better i bet... although im not sure i would like to put my engine thru that.. maybe i could just punch a hole somewhere obscure before the main cat... hrmmm

Do you care about this exhaust very much? I've been toying with this idea. After the 3 cats in the y-pipe or something like that, drill a hole maybe like nickel or quarter sized in your exhaust on the bottom. This way exhaust gases will escape before it reaches the tailpipes where they measure it. I mean think about it, less exhaust gases, lower concentration right? Less hydrocarbons? Might work, or the readings might not change at all since they're a ratio, not sure.

Also not sure how loud this will make it and if they'd notice the loud noises heh.

yeah, im trying to fix my welder and find some old cats on my other cars.. ive been wanting to build a strictly for smog test exhaust, with like 2 or 3 main cats and maybe a line running all the way from the first cat to the begining of the muffler, with a silencer looking plug with 3 holes around the edges, and the line from the air pump running to the middle of it, so i will be blowing more o2 out of the very end exhaust and not mixing it with all the extreme heat and fresh exhaust gas... but that's just something ive been working on, having it bolt in where the muffler's gasket would go, just a thin piece of sheet metal with some holes and ****, seems like it may work

Sounds like a good idea.

hell i might be able to make one between now and next monday (when i plan to get tested) i have some small gauge metal studs laying around i could make a prototype with, bolt it up at the Y pipe for now, and have the air line split into a Y, and pull it to the muffler, that way i would have more air coming out, i will work on it tomorrow and put up some pics, and have the results monday! nothing better than finding out more ways to cheat emissions
