Mazdatrix has a nice one that connects to the firewall and also has an engine torque brace. Kinda pricy though but you generally get what you pay for. If I had not made my own out of aluminum I would have bought theirs.

I heard you need to cut a hole in the strut towers for the rear one.

The Mazdatrix braces are steel - just what I want, more weight.

I'm going to make myself one. If you remove the carpet from around the rear strut towers you will notice on the front side of the towers two threaded holes about 1 - 1 1/2" apart. They are the mounts for the rear seat or something similiar to that. It is very easy to make the mounts and then have them welded to a cross bar. This bar will also double as my harness bar and a solid mount for my seat back brace. Depending on your fabricating skills and the desire to make this piece presentable it can look very good.

The mazdaspeed one you one have to cut small holes in the carpet. Not in the strut top.

I posted this in another thread regarding strut tower braces, but didn't get an answer. Can someone here explain this please?

What's the point in tying the rear of the LCA's together? doesn't that big *** engine crossmember provide enough lateral support on the bottom? Top I can understand, because it gaps a large hole, but the bottom seems pretty strong as is. Educate me, please.

Thanks,

Ren

If you're planning to autocross your car with SCCA, the triangulated brace is not legal in SP, but the straight one with the engine brace is.

Was that just for him (cusco) or do you have to do it to other types of rear strut tower bars

So, its purpose is to keep the rear of the LCA's in their original positions (i.e. not flex from lateral load)? Is this a common problem? I don't think I've ever heard of other strut-type cars having that problem. I would think the upper would be enough. Did you try to drive it with just the upper and see if adding the lower made a difference?

I'm sure it doesn't flex much. but everyone who puts them on say they notice a difference. they make lower bars for lots of cars. FWD cars use them in the rear. the ITR's have them stock.

To cut the holes in the towers, I used an small air jig saw. ( dont know the tech term for it) but it was about the size of large dremal tha I connected to my compresser and cut like jig saw.

the cusco gives you a basic diagram on where to cut. but would have been nice if they give you a normal template.

took a few fit checks to make sure they fit and would rub.

the carpet I was goig to cut a round hole in it to side the bar in. but desided to cut an X into it and put the bar throw the X.

Took about an hour to do everything. If I had to do it again my holes would not have been that large around.
