strut replacement

What are the best strut replacements front and rear for someone on a budget? I searched the auto stores online and I guess you can't just put a replacement cartridge in like on my old FB.

On a budget, the Tokico blues are probably your best bet. They are half a step up from the OEM struts.

Blues (HP series) as well for $322 a set

Racing Beat - at $60 for the front, $60 for the back they're a bargain.
It says in the description that it'll lower the height but most likely with your 15 year old springs you are sitting lower than stock - actually I'd swear I'm sitting a little higher now. Those springs with the Tokico Illuminas are awesome, at least I'm liking it.

If you want to keep the stock height, in some thread a interesting product from Mr. Gasket was mentioned. They're rubber spacers for springs and they look like they're pretty customizable. I believe you may even cut them to the desired diameter. If you were to use something like that you could use a lowering spring and be back to stock height. I believe Summit sells the product I'm refering to.

First you need to figure out what the stock height and then where you car is at now, because like I said earlier after 15 years it ain't there now.

how is that a bargain? 60 EACH.

as far as budget springs, Im in the same boat as you. Im pretty set on the tokico HPs and suspension techniques springs ($190). You can find the Tein S Tech springs for really cheap, but they seem to have a bad rap.

I put a set of Tokico HPs with the Racing Beat springs and swaybars in a '86 base (4-lug) for a friend about a month ago. The springs were kind of a short unloaded, (They shift around on the perch when the car is in the air) but the handling was great to the limit of the tires.

You need to tighten the nut on the top of the shock further down, the springs should NOT move around on the perch.
The RB springs are shorter than stock because they are stiffer progressive raste spring, just about any aftermarket springs are going to be like that.

Thanks for the tip, but I checked everything twice. All four struts were assembled correctly and there was play when they were not under load.

KYB AGX's bolt right in, they sell FC specific ones, I can't even imagine what an adapter kit would be?
