Talking Stripped Engine Down--LOL!

Well, here is some thing to LOL about. I can't see how this engine even ran--unbelievable.

I got this T2 for $400 and the previous owner says the apex seals are blown--even had Mazmart check it out. Ok, so I'm stripping this thing down to a short block for rebuild. Get the turbo off and spin the engine to check the apex seals--whooo huu they are all in there from what I can see. But there is a puddle of coolant in the bottom of the turbo manifold, not too bad, I can deal with that--a coolant seal went out. Turns out the front rotor chamber also has coolant in there.

And oh yea, the turbo wastegate wasn't hooked up to the linkage, so the wastgate would always be open. Thats good, hopefully this turbo has a long life ahead from little use--free movement and no endplay.

Pull the CAS out and wtf it's like 180 off, ya know the dot and the mark on the CAS shaft body.

Then I notice the injectors, 3 are red and 1 is purple and the purple one looks newer. I'm guessing this is the wrong size but all the notches are in the center--go figure.

Also found a myriad of wires that were just plain burned with no insulation--bare wire showing--but not from fire.

Somebody was really hacking on the engine, not to mention the neglect of fixing oil leaks--I could scrape the oil off with a putty knife.

Nothing I can't fix but I sure got a chuckle out of some of these. And real glad the apex seals are all intact.

Scott

The purple injectors often fade to look like red

the cas will be 180 if it's not 2 rotations........

I found that out try'n to check it.

Put it in
rotate
it will be 180 off

Put it in
rotate 2 full revolutions
right on the money

(the slower the cas has to move the more accurate the readings i suppose)

well that's what i found out..............but i've been know to be wrong though. It's and easy test but i though it was interesting.

you sure there were no side seals? Sure they weren't stuck to the housing and you just missed them?
