There is a big difference between 1mph over the speed limit and running down a road side by side as fast as your car will go with unsuspecting people diving on it as well.

hmmm

Street Racing for me is more like a power cruise.

I drive right through the downtown portions of our city at mostly speed limits (maybe 10 over). But I don't do stupid **** especially racing in an area that you are not familiar with.

If I know the area and someone decides to cruise past me and wants to play a little, I will play...but I won't do stupid things like go 120+ MPH. Usually I just chase them around for a while, pull over, BS a bit, and then go our separate ways (exchange phone #'s every now and again).

perfect7: What part of illegal is not understood you had asked earlier. I'm not coming down on you or anything. Please don't take it as so. It's just that everybody does stuff that is [I]technically[I] illegal from time to time. The letter of the law is in black and white. There is no grey area. 1mph or 100mph, it doesn't matter. A while ago there was a post about drifting and people took it way out of context. It was a flame war. One guy threatened people with killing them if they did it. But in a later post the same guy said that he was doing about 125mph down the road. He felt that was safer than doing a powerslide at 20~30mph in a deserted area at night somehow. Where's the logic in that?
Yeah, I saw that video. I think the clinical term for them is "boneheads". It's easy to get a car sideways and crossed up under the speed limit as well. I'm not saying that S2000 was under the speed limit however.
There is a big difference between what is right/wrong and what is legal/illegal. I feel street racing in general is dull. Many don't share this opinion. The rush from speed is like a drug. A drug that is harmless until things go wrong, sometimes with horrible results. Tell a junkie they can only shoot up in a certain place, at a certain time, and have to pay to do it. It's not going to happen. They'll do it when the feeling strikes them. This is like street racing. There are those that won't stop no matter what is said to them. That's life.
Most people killed on the road are not from street racers. The people that scare me are the ones that are not paying attention. Suzie soccer mom feeling invincible in a 3 ton rig on a cell phone, drinking a coffee, listening to the radio to drown out her kids in the back screaming to go get ice cream. But somehow the media doesn't pinpoint them as a great danger. I'm not trying to trivialize those that do get injured or even die from these street racing accidents. They just are a small percentage of unfortunate accidents.
People just need to practice good judgement. If you've got to think twice if you should or shouldn't do something, then don't do it. Breaking the law is one thing, endangering yourself and others is another thing altogether. Play nicely now.

Funny you should mention that. I was just talking to my dad tonight about street racing and he asked if I had ever been to the track. I said: "Yeah, I got 4 runs for $35, while at [street racing location] I could have run all night for $10 in gas." I raced more before F&F came out because people were more serious about it those days. I don't race every idiot that came along, and if you think that "Street Racing" in general is dangerous, you need to get your head out of your *** and stop trying to be so PC. If driving down the highway isn't too dangerous, then why is driving at 70 MPH next to someone who is also trying to drive that speed dangerous? The people who drive 110 down busy city streets with no regard for others are the dangerous ones, not the ones who race on empty roads.
