how much would you pay for an '89 GTU?

Well, a guy at work is selling his red on black '89 GTU. The interior is in great shape. The exterior needs some work, the paint is original and somewhat faded and there is some damage on the rear drivers side quaterpanel. The engine has 80,000 miles on it, the car has 140,000 on it. He's been taking good care of it, changing plugs and oil and everything.
I plan on getting this car as a daily driver, don't plan on racing it or anything, my toy is a Toyota 4x4 with 38's, I'm just wondering how much a good price is on a car like this.
Thanks for your opinions,
jake

Is it a GTU, or a GTUs?

I would say $2000 with damage to the quarter panel.

I'd pay no more than $3000 for a car with near perfect interior, and near perfect body. However...if you're lucky enough to find a 90 for $600 with a couple door dings, i'd take it. Actaully...i did find a 90 that ran in with a couple door dings for $600.
