street racing, what do to ?

Hey im 17 and I myself dont go and rat race around town or my neighbourhood for that matter. My parents are getting very concerend about me street racing im trying to explain to them that I dont. the only place i race is down in the farm area's where there are wide open roads and no traffic away from residential area's.
I hate this, all the irresponsible people my age that think they are invincible and go crazy in traffic and kill people, its making a hell of a life for people our age. What can we do to stop this ??

Can't do much, idiots will be idiots. You can say the cops could be more strict, but that won't do anything.

from the parents perspective

Well from the parents perspective this is how they think:

You see, I tell my parents that I race around late at night...they discourage it...but I have had them in the car with my while I am doing it so it is different.

They would actually prefer that I do it in a noticeable area so that if I crash and burn then someone will find me in time to save me.

From your parents perspective, even if they know that you are racing in the middle of no where...that just makes them worry about you not being found until you are nothing but skin and bones.

(Actually this August (around the 24th) I will be racing around the Fraser Valley in the Rocky Mountains with my father in the car showing me the "fun" route.

Just take it easy and prove to them that you are compitent, take them for a spin at night some day and drive like you normally do.

Build their trust.

My parents are cool about the racing, they know I'm responsible with my car and not careless like somepeople out there. They know its dangerous, but they also know that I grew up around it so they can't say anything cause they used to do it!! But thats just me, and I think its cool when you say "later mom, I'm going streetracing, I'll be late." and she replies "good luck!" Kinda gets you *sniff*...right there.

I say, I agree with your parents. Street racing is ILLEGAL and very dangerous. But I do it. We cannot expect our 'rents to agree with it, because it is very dangerous, and is very irresponsible.....even out in the country. I am in college, so my mom has no say what I do, but she is concerned. Just be safe, and listen to your parents. You are 17. How good of a driver could you really be? Bobbie Ore has been teaching professional stunt drivers for 20 years, and he still makes mistakes!!!!

I know the roads Powridah is talking about. Really quite safe, I've gone 260 km/h on them, no traffic or ppl whatsoever.
(BTW, their is a nice dragstrip painted on the road way in behind Mission. Really deserted, perfectly flat, and great place to get a 1/4 mile ET estimate. Remind me to show you some time...)
Kyle, in all honesty, there really is nothing you can do. You will just have to tell your parents that you don't think it is worth the risk with the new laws (Now if we could only convince Daryl of this...). You mentioned they want you to sell your car b/c it is too fast: point out that many of the most recent accidents have been in plain jane hondas and minivans. Kids will race no matter what they drive, and its up to the kids to make thier own choice.

You hear about Jeff being the first one who lost his lisence street racing this year? Pretty funny.... He never races either, lol, ironic that it was him.

Anyway, I think you had best let street racing be left to the ignorant, as you already are, and concentrate on getting your car running a bit better, too.
BTW, I may have been revealed to a company that sells Jspecs for $700 Cdn...

When I told my mom I got pulled over for drag racing, she said: "Did you win?" I guess she trusts my driving and thinking abilities.

ARE YOU IDIOTS OUT OF YOUR F-ING MINDS!!!!! Street racing is very illegal and your parents are just as out of their heads if the allow it. Stop watching that stupid movie F&F. It should have been called dumd and dumber. There are soo many legit race strips around there is no need to go to the streets. I autox my 7 with race tires and a five point harness in a legal closed course. Would you want one of your friend to explain to your parents that you were killed in a street race!!

You could join VCMC and get out and autocross your car very regularly. Between VCMC, CACC, and CSCC down here in Bellingham you can race most any weekend in a legal environment. It's not tough if you look around.

i agree, street racing is very dangerous and though I must admit I screw around on the highway from time to time I won't race in town. A friend of mine from high school caused a REALLY bad accident racing his Integra GSR and one of his closest friends (then at least) is now paralized because of it. all in all it's just not worth the risk and i'll gladly let some idiot think my car is slow or I don't have the "*****" to race in order to live the next day of my life unchanged.

I received an email today about them.
Text below:
"With all the talk about Jspec motors, I decided to open the yellow pages and
have a look for Jspec engine importers.
I am in Canada, Toronto to be specific.
I called about 10 shops about 5 of the 2nd gen motors and 2 of them both
series 4/5.
I got quotes for $650-850 for series 4 and $900-950 for series 5. The one
that quoted 650 was only 10 minutes from my work so I headed there after
work, he had 2 of them with 5 speed trannys still attached for $700. I asked
if I could I use a 19mm socket and a ratchet to turn over the motors to see
if there was any compression at all, he agreed. One of them sounded weak the
other was made pretty good consistent pulses.
This is Canadian dollars so $700.00/1.6 = $437.50 US Dollars.

This really cheap and the price includes delivery.

and then:
"
http://www.yellowpages.ca/bin/cgidir...ON&TYPE=Search

On page 2 Shine Used japanese

It pulls up some local importers, I got the shops business card at hope I will post it later."

And from forum member ScottMackezie of 1300cc.com:
"ya someone I know just picked up a series 5 one for $950cnd from a local place here.
I was amazed considing that's what they sell for in USD on the net... and he picked
up a tranny for a couple hundred more. he wants to put them into his gsl-se

You know what I want to know though? I want a total count of people killed/injured from organized street racing. And of those how many were not involved at all? I have never heard of one peron get injured. Maybe thats just here though.

I've never seen a problem with organized street racing here. but we've had over 10 car deaths and lots of crashes in the last month involving "street racing" and "high powered modded cars" ( a stock civic, accord, P5, a K car, altima, BMW, etc )

and the cops here are cracking down on every moded car around. towing and ticketing lots of them.

it's so dumb considering most of them were stock cars, and all were under 20... a few are ruining it for the rest of us.

it's not the car, it's the driver.

U betcha, the media gets it all wrong too. Half of those people that died weren't even racing they say "high speed was a factor" well no ****! but is hig speed and head on collisions street racing? IMO nope!

A friend of mine died in a street race a couple weeks ago. He had just bought his car like 3 days before and was letting a friend drive it in the race. The only time I'll condone street races is when it happens on roads where people are watching the traffic flow in and out of the racing zone.

I'd rather spend the $20 or $30 to run at the track. Makes sense doesn't it? I'm not into risking my or others' lives. Plus....I'd rather pay the $$ to run at the track instead of tickets/ins. surcharges, etc. And that's all I got to say about that....

Uh oh! Do we have somebody here that has never, ever, EVER done anything whatsoever illegal in their car? 1 mph over the posted speed limit is illegal. I'd hate to be stuck behind them in traffic.
