Strange Wiper issue!!!!

This is driving me crazy, the windshield wipers never worked great - did not work on low speed and you would have to fiddle with the **** to get them to fully lower - but today things got worse - they are "stuck" on the fast setting. I have tried everything and they won't tuen off. Finally I just pulled the fuse...but I have no wipers.....

Could it be the motor or is it more likely an electrical issue??? The motor is easy to replace....I do not want to troubleshoot electrical crap

In case it matters the windshield wiper sprayer works fine - I think that is on the same circuit....

its most likely the switch, i only have low speed and off settings

also, my rear wiper did the same thing, was constantly on, so i removed the wiper, so i could care less if it was running or not

99.44% it's the wiper cluster switch.
Icemark on here rebuilds them for a reasonable fee.

I would not use Rain-X on the glass unless you know you're going to be going freeways speeds all the time.
It causes water to bead, and it makes your vision WORSE at low speeds.
If you want something to help when your wipers aren't working, use Casecade "with sheeting action" to help - yes, the dishwasher soap.

Thanks,

$75 for a rebuilt switch is reasonable if it solve the issue. I will contact Icemark about it. Just don't want to buy something if the issue is really the motor or other exectrical stuff...

IME (In My Experience), wiper motors rarely fail.
If they do fail, they will fail and end up dead.
I have never come across one that worked intermitently.

I have heard of wiring harnesses getting burnt out, but the wiper cluster switch is most likely culprit in any wiper problem cases.

If anything, it's good preventive maintenance to get the wiper cluster switch rebuild...just for peace of mind.

Wipers gone nuts!

My 88 just did same. Running fine, but cannot turn wipers off and swittch does not respond. Would like to know if it usually is the switch cluster or could it me a short somehere else?

Here's another option, if you're broke.

i've never had that problem and i've rain xed every thing i own for several years...i dont even have the wipers on my car anymore...and its never affected me...just clean you windshield really well (was it at least 2x with glass cleaner) and put 3-4 coats of rainx on...works perfect for me.

I used to use RainX all the time before.
I hated it when at low speeds the beading actually makes it worse, unless you've got really good wiper blades.
The problem with RainX is that it kills rubber wiper blades really quick!
