I hate my car. There a few funky wires on there that I have no clue where they go. Not to mention where the spare tire sits there is a big harness that looks like it would be for the ecu (but its not), a plug that almost looks like a printer plug (just for a comparison) with a DSM symbol on it, a round plug with like 6 wires running to it (other end runs to where my stereo unit is, doesnt connect to anything). I believe there is another round plug w/ 4 wires, too lazy to run outside and check. Not to mention I dont think my fuel cut switch is connected lol. Ill try to get pics of the stuff.

Anyhow, on topic, it sounds like the previous owner probably had some stereo equipment in there and the wiring is still in place. Get some pics and maybe we can help identify it.

Heh at first I wasnt going to make this a serious post but I did (my explanation for the stupid topic) but then the 30min edit thing was over... and well I couldnt fix it
Maybe with the stereo equipment, but I havent seen connectors like that used for a stereo before *shrug* Unless it was like a 12 disc changer or something. Havent seen the connectors for one of those before.

It is probably the CD changer wires from the previous owner. They are usually a round plug with pins inside (Like the plug on the end of your keyboard). There will usually be a few other wires there too, like the power, ground, and switched power wires. If there is some other stock wires there, they are probably from accessories that didn't come with your car.

I found a disposable camera I used to take pictures of local rice with. So I took a bunch of pics of my car with what was left on it. Going to get it developed in a few hours when **** opens. There are way too many plugs for it to be just for a cd changer..

Alrighty. So here are the pictures.
AAS System harness no doubt:
I guess this is the factory cd changer unit?
I believe this is the other end of the wire
I think this is just for diagnostic equipment?
These next two I dont know what they do or where they go.

The green wires in the engine compartment is for diagnostics.
The chrome ended cable looks like it's for a CB antenna.
Why the **** do you use **** in evey question?

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
Those plugs are for a aftermarket Mitsubishi in car cellular phone.
The small antenna cable is the balck one, the round one is the power cable, and the data one goes between the handset and hands free kit and the cellular brain.
Of course most of the people on this board are too young to remember in car cellular phones, but they were very popular back in the mid to late 80's and early 90's.
And BTW: the AAS plug is a 21 pin molex type plug and most certinly not a data cable as described by drox

Unless you're going for ultimate light weight FC then you'd want to reduce the harness to its absolute essential components... Hey, copper is heavier than air.

It is cheaper for mazda to make a single main harness and install it in every car than to have 10 types of harness's based on every available option / trim level package.

I know, but that didnt answer my question... I am just going to hide the wiring harness and remove the DSM stuff. But would that switch be for the AAS system?

That's definately not a stock switch, so the likelyhood of it being used for the AAS is about as good as tammy fae baker winning a beauty contest.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but you don't have the AAS suspension in that car do you? Usually there are computers hooked up to the harnesses of options that are installed on the car.
I'm thinking of adding a computer kill switch in my dash so that I can play with the S-AFC after turning the engine off. It'll double as an anti-theft device that most theives would overlook. You'll have to trace the wires going from that switch to find out what its for. Most people would be kind enough to explain anything they've done when selling the car.

I have a fuel cut off switch thats located under my ignition. But I dont even know if it works lol. People say there are 3 wires coming from the top of the strut towers if AAS is on the car, but I dont believe my car has it (I hear it doesnt do much to anything anyways). Whoever installed a lot of the wiring on this car did a shitty job. Ive tried tracing that switch down but it changes color atleast 4 times and I cant seem to find where it goes. I dont notice it doing anything (but then again my engine doesnt run right now so I cant see a mechanical difference). Im going to start ripping **** out and finding where these damn wires go. Its annoying me having unknown switches
When I bought the car the interior wasnt really together, but all the pieces were there. I never took that close of a look at all the switches etc in the interior (and I should have... stupid move on my part). Is there anyway for a fuel cut to be ran to the ecu? I think one of the switches runs to it but I am not 100% sure. Ill check when it warms up a bit more.

Drox you need to get a multimeter. Start testing some of those wires to see if they even have power to them. Next anything you don't need rip out, it will save you from alot of confusion in the future. The switch under your ignition is fuel cut, that's where RX-7 Specialties always puts it, the one n the center console i have no idea about just start tracing wires and see where it goes, it could be anything maybe some fogs lights the previous owner had on or something.

This post was started because I am ripping out all of the wiring that isnt connected to anything. I have a multi meter hiding some where. I got all of those wires ripped out that I posted about earlier along with a few other things.
What kind of confused me is whoever installed the fuel kill switch. There was 1 green wire connected to it that went straight to a ground. No other visible wires that look like they should be attached to it.
Now that you mention it, there was fog lights on the car (icky purple ones) that I removed when I first got it. I am sure thats what the second switch is for, or the second switch is a real fuel cut off.
On another note, sound deadening material is such a bitch to hold up/bend/move around while you pull out wires. That stuff is way heavier than I thought it would be.
