strange, found my car has a centerforce clutch

hum.....kinda wierd. I started a rebuild project on my car (sorry no pics) but as pulled the engine I found a centerforce dual friction clutch on the car. It is an orange pp and a stock looking clutch (not 3,4 or 6 puck) Looks like there is alot of surface left on the thing but when I was driving on it I could constantly feel it slip??? Does anyone know how much hp these things are good for?

Was your "feeling" in agreement with the tach and speedo? When I'm on the boost at or near the torque peak my tach will jump and then fall back. That is a slipping clutch.

I, too, found a centerforce on my parts car when I picked it up. Haven't actually looked at the friction disk to see if it is worth anything......

when I actually had good compression I was slipping from 5k rpm on. I had to keep it below 5k rpm or it would just quickly go to redline without any power. Thanks for the answer ted!

Knock on wood, mine's still going strong...and I'm still running an NA tranny/rear with my TII motor.

Proper break-in seems to be key for the CFDF clutches. I've had mine under boost for maybe 3K miles so far, prior to that maybe 40K and 5 years.

They don't carry the reputation that the ACT units do - but many people have had them in for a long while without problems. The claim to fame with the centerforce clutches seem to be the stock feeling pedal effort. I'm running 13 psi on my TII motor and the NA CF clutch holds just fine...

I had a dual friction on my previous T II, it was pushing 320hp at the time I put it in, even when new it started slipping bad after two passes at the strip, so did a friend's of mine on a lightly modded FD...piece of crap. It finnaly came apart after less than six months, never again for me. Works for some people but I have seen it fail in more than a few RX's.

I beat up my ACT all day, never slipped, it's awesome.

I personally prefer the Exedy clutches. I have the mazdaspeed 6 puck (made by exedy) and it's freakin GREAT!

hummm interesting interesting. I have one of those ebay 6puck sprung clutches and preasure plates going in but if the centerforce is not all that great and it is a name brand I kinda hate to see what the ebay thing does???

I hate centerforce clutches, they didn't quite hold up to as much abuse as some of the other clutches i've used.

I know they won't put up with lots of launching/slipping at the drag strip, like an ACT will. I've never had this problem though as I've never slipped/launched the car hard enough to really heat it up hehe

I have to clarify tough, I used Centerforce a lot back when it was the best in the market, I used it in my former RX-3, 280 ZX Turbo and 300 ZX Turbo, they were all in mid to low 13's in the 1/4 mi with no problems, just the dual friction gave me problems on the T II.
