probobly not much power gained over a good freeflowing full exhaust. do a search for sound clips people have posted it will change your mind.

You would probably be better off only removing the cats. I took the muffler off my Celica and replaced it with a muffler tip that has glasspacks in it but left the rest of my exhuast alone and it was disgustingly loud. Sounded awesome, but much too loud. All my neighbours complained and everyone but me and my best friend hated it.

Just do a proper custom exhuast system without the cats.

If you go true-duals mazdatrix has seen as high as a 28% wrhp gain on a chassis dyno.

you might gain like 10 just getting rid of the cats, depending on there cloggedness, get a cat replacement pipe, and go from there. it's a good place to start

I wouldn't do it on a n/a, but on a TII the power band gets substantially fatter (read: torque) when you remove it. I find it too noisy so I'm putting something in to quiet it down. It's not so bad at city speeds but on a highway trip it's way too loud for too long.

actually, i just did my eexhaust this weekend so i think i can help.

i have straight through muffler with a removable silencer on it. i cut my stock pipe after the first cat, so right now i am running just one cat on the car. after the cat i ran 2.5" pipe all the way to the muffler. total cost including new gasket at header: $200 canadian($135us).

with the silencer on, it is really not all that loud. i might even say it is quiet.

but take the silencer off... and it is loud as hell!!! with the silencer off it feels like 10hp.

this is what i did before. its very quiet, but after the y split, the pipes get really thin. im sure this causes some power loss

A single muffler will be louder than dual mufflers.

I have the RB downpipe/presilencer and a strait-through muffler, and its not too bad. At constant speeds and light acceleration its pretty loud, but at full acceleration it can get really loud. Unless you really get on it, its an acceptable volume, I think. Just make sure you get something with a presilencer, otherwise it will be deafening. The RB presilencer is the only thing I know of that still reliably operates th aux ports. The bonez pipe has something to do it, but it doesnt work with a strait exhaust, at least it didnt on mine. If you have an s5, that doesnt matter, though.
