straight cut gears

Hey guys, I searched 2 pages for straight cut gear manufacturers. I dont have teh money for these parts right now. I'm jsut asking out of curiosity.

Who makes them for our cars, what are the price ranges? I just contacted PAR Engineering because I know they make a good amount of straight cut gears at an affordable price.

Couldn't you just have them machined?

Why do you want straight cut gears?

Absolutely and wholly unnecessary on a street car, and for 99% of weekend racer applications.

Straight cut gears are more efficient and offer more strength, but they whine like a roots style blower. Not to mention that as far as I'm aware, the only such transmission available for the FC is the HKS "dogmission" which is a real bear to shift on the street and costs $6K.

Any gear set to fit a stock case of any kind will be at least $2500-$3000. I don't know of any for the Mazda box besides the stuff from MazdaComp, and I've never checked what a full cluster is from them. Besides the above mentioned noise issues they are also very high maintenance. You can't just run those gears forever like a street box and if you don't keep up on wear its really ugly when they ventilate themselves.

While it's not a straight cut set, there's an interesting product here that can be made to fit in an NA tranny:

Then there's the GURU dog box kit that fits in the stock TII tranny:

Be sure to budget for things like synchros with the Quaife kit, and installation for both.
