"stop" warning light

i noticed the "stop" light coming on on the idiot light panel whenever i pushed the brake pedal tonight.

i looked in the manual to see what it meant and its said that its caused by a brake light thats out or the circuit is malfunctioning.

i checked both lights when the pedal is pressed, they light up fine, although the far passenger side brake bulb seemed a tad dimmer than the rest.

i just finished painting and reinstalling my taillights. i know i plugged both the harnesses in though.

Is the center hi-stop brake light working too?

yes. and i didnt change any of the bulbs, not that it matters because they all light up. the only thing there is to unplug is one harness, which i plugged in. maybe its loose and not all the way together?

You said one of the bulbs was dim, which means reduced current. Lower-than-normal current is what triggers the warning light, so see if you can find out why that bulb is dim. Try swapping the bulbs around to determine if it's the bulb or the wiring.

check your connector contacts for corrosion.. may have been nice and snug until they got disconnected and reconnected...

i went out and check that one bulb i thought was dimmer, i took it out and held it next to the other one and it looked the same.

i dont get it. i could understand if one of the lights wasnt working. the reverse lights work, the hazards work, the turn signals work, the parking lights work, the lights brighten when i apply the brakes.

why is it being a bitch?

Did you actually swap them, or just stare at it for a while? You can't always tell a bad bulb by looking at it.

Swap the bubs around. If the dim bulb stays dim in a new location, replace it. If any bulb in the same location dims, you have a wiring or connector problem.

happened to me, i did exactly the same thing as you, took the bulb out, compared it to the others. they looked the same, i still kept getting the "stop" light. turns out that my bulb was burned out, but just slightly. it would still light up, just barely, so what it was doing was that since it wasn't burned too much the electricity was still bridging over to the other piece of metal. so it was to the point that my bulb was bad, but not to the point where it was 100% obvious. i changed it and it stopped, later about 2 weeks, it happened again with another bulb, same thing happened.

it looked like it was working, but it was gone slightly so i got the "stop" light again. that's when i changed all my bulbs and it hasn't ever happened again

hope this helps
