stop light comes on

Every time I press on thebrake pedal the stinking stop light comes on on the idiot cluster. I must be an idiot since I can not figure out why? The lights work fine, there is enough fluid in the reservoir. There is also a clunk when I press the brake pedal when brakes get warm but I do not think that these are related.

Any help suggesstions?

One (or several) of your brake bulbs is/are burned out?

Then it's probably a CPU replated problem. It'll be the stop light warning relay. Got to page 15-23 in the Body Electrics chapter of the 88 FSM; it shows you where to look, it's on circuit board B.

There is also a clunk when I press the brake pedal when brakes get warm but I do not think that these are related.

Your brake pads are worn out and when they are worn out, you are using alot of brake fluid and can be running low. The caliper pistons are at full press when the pads are worn. Thus, more brake fluid is being used, which could cause the brake fluid light to come on. AKA: E-Brake light.

Check your pads sir. That could be what your clunk noise could be coming from. Metal to metal... If not, check your suspension bolts! The bolts on the stabilizer bar that connects to the Control arm (the triangle mount) Likes to lose bolts. I had to replace mine twice in the past year on the front right. YOU WILL hear a clunk noise when you hit the brakes if those bolts are loose or gone.

Hope this helps.

Check all your bolts! =)

I had a loose ground wire on the left side rear light cluster, it caused the stop light to come on.

thanks

thank you every one. I will check all these symptoms. It seems like this started happening when I put on my round taillights. Clunk seems to come from right around me maybe (hopefully not) the brake booster. I hear it when I even tap on the brakes not necessarily press them all the way. I will check up everything this weekend.

maybe your booster is loose and its clunking on the firewall? My gxl's booster was extremely loose, not sure if this was just someone tried to remove it, or if it ended up that way, but it's something to check.
