stock oil cooler question

A few days ago I unbolted the bolt that is below the stock radiator on my car (which is a 1987 Mazda RX-7 FC S4 N/A, by the way).
Here is a photo of what I'm talking about:

When I took the bolt off, the bypass valve and the spring jumped out of the radiator leaving me no chance to take note of how it was mounted inside.

When I look at the picture on the FSM, it seems like the thinner part of the bypass valve is pointed up, and the spring is between the valve and the bolt. But I'm not sure if that's the way it's supposed to be, and the picture is not clear enough. Plus, thinking about the way it's supposed to work, it doesn't make sense that the spring is between the valve and the bolt. I think that the spring should be between the valve and the inside of the oil cooler. But then again, what do I know?

Does anybody know how they should be mounted?

Here's a picture of the parts:

Ok. I'll put it that way, then. I just hope that it isn't wrong and my car doesn't start to overheat...

Thank you!
