stock knock box ?s

Does anyone know what the function of the stock knock control box is?

Basically what I want to know is, it reads the input from the knock sensor, processes it, and outputs something to the ECU. is it just amplifying the signal, or does it contain a processor so that it outputs a linear signal that describes the level of knock, or even a digital on/off signal that is high when knock is over a certain level?

What im getting at is that I want to use it as a knock control input to my microtech, or maybe just to run a knock light from, so i need to know what it outputs so i know what i need to do to the signal to make it an on/off type affair. If anyone has any ideas i'd appreciate it.

Thanks
Pat

yeah it simply interpets the knock sound on a S4 Turbo.

And yes you can tie into an aftermarket system with it, but I don't remember if it sent a Postive 12 volt or neg ground trigger when it saw knock...

The other end, is that it is not a very good sensor, and really can't process anything above 4000 RPM

i asked a very similar question to this and if you search my theads you'll find the answer but if i remember right its a ground trigger and when the ecu sees that ground it adjusts timing according to other engine parameters at that time
