Stock Battery wire replacement
I am not relocating my battery. I would like to leave it where it is. But, I would like to replace the stock wiring from the battery.
My reason is because the + and - wires look like they have melted. I can see the copper and it looks very corroded, lots of green looking stuff all over the wire.
I am also worried about the wire that is showing touching part of the body and grounding out.
I was told that the stock wires are integrated into the wiring harness. So, what am I am going to need to do?
Has anyone done a write up on this?
For the negative wire, can I get one of the terminals that attach in the middle of the wire to ground to the body.
Also, terminal sizes needed?
I am going to do a write up if one doesn't already exist.
Thanks guys!
P.S. Stock wiring looks terrible....

I don't know what the exact problem is. You can drive up to the hardware store or any other store where you can get the right gauge wires and ends and then just follow the original wiring. I trully don't know what issues you're having other than not leaving your house to start working on your wires.

I just haven't gone to the store to look. I have been busy making the money to do the stuff.
I was just wondering if there was a special way of getting the stock wires out of the harness. They look like they all run into it, stock harness. Where does the + need to be connected to? Starter and.... where on the harness to go to the ECU?
- needs to go to the starter, and it looks like there is a ground going to the fuse box in the engine bay, and the - needs to have a fitting about 1' or so from the battery that will connect to the chassis.
Anywho, guess I will just take lots of pictures for anyone else that needs to do it.
Thanks for the info guys.

NOO! Negative goes to a ground. Positive goes down to the starter.
I replaced my battery cables a few years ago with 600volt welding cable, about 3/4 inch thick I took a 2 inch long bolt and welded it directly to the chassis by the battery for a solid ground. If you're going to replace them, might as well upgrade the type of wire you're going to use...

Just follow the existing + wire back from the starter and see where it attaches to. I forget off the top of my head.... but it was actually a relatively easy cable swap. Took about an hour and a half? Sorry not more help right now... its late

There is a big +12V wire that goes to the starter solenoid, and a ground wire that bolts to one of the starter/transmission mounting bolts.
The ECU gets it's feed from the EFI relay which is fed from the fuse box in the engine bay. This feed takes place over the front harness, as I recall.
- needs to go to the starter, and it looks like there is a ground going to the fuse box in the engine bay,

I haven't attached anything yet. I have been working. But, from what it loots like, from my existing ground wire, there is a black wire that is going to the fuse box in the engine bay.
Also, there is a big thick black wire going to a spot on the starter, it is attached to the bolt that is holding the starter on. And the other one (red) is hooked to the start.
I am going to follow your grounding Aaron. I just wasn't sure if I had to splice into my + to lead off into the harness somewhere. I have to solder everything before I get it into the car. Living in an apartment and I can't run wires out to my car to do the soldering.
Thanks for the info.

There are no ground wires going to the fuse box. If you ground it, you will get major sparks when you connect the battery and likely a fire.
The FSM contains a diagram of the charging system which will tell you the colours of each wire and where they run. If I remember correctly there's a smaller 12V wire that runs from the battery to the fuse box, and a big 12V wire that runs to the starter solenoid. A ground runs from the negative of the battery to the driver shock tower and one of the starter mounting bolts. No other connections are made to the battery in a stock configuration.

Hmmm, that may be it. It was black so I guess I was assuming that it was ground. I am wondering if the stock wiring was replaced already. I think both wires were black. It also looks like both wires were tapped to the old harness.
Eh, thanks Aaron! I was going to check out the FSM before doing anything.
