does anyone else in here have a gas smell fill the cockpit of your rx? I have this gas smell, maybe it comes through the vents but I can't be too sure. Usually I only smell it when the engine is cold and needs to warm up, but sometimes it lingers around longer. I also smell it much after I get gas expecially when I fill her up. How can I eliminate this problem?

Yeah, I smell gas at certain times (cold warmup, fillup, etc.)
Turn on the recirc button.

 

The car has a charcoal canister located in the engine bay on the passenger side, rear. This canister has a line going back to the gas tank. The canister is supposed to soak up the fumes from the fuel tank. Sometimes some of us rip the canister off and throw it to the side leaving the gas tank vent open to the atmosphere. Then the fumes make their way into the fresh air vent and you smell them. That was the simple scenario. The unsimple scenario is that you have a fuel leak. Maybe the pulsation damper maybe a pin leak in the fuel hose mabybe.............

 

I have it after i fill up, my friends were complaining in the car yesterday, i had two other people stuffed in the car. I though it smelled that way because the previous owner had accidently drilled a hole in the top of thegas tank and it drips out. Well i guess that's part of it, i only smell it when i have the sunroof and windows open though, it doesn't seem to come fromt the vent

 

Check your pulsation damper just to be sure!!!!!

 

umm, please fix the hole that was drilled in the tank!

(how did he drill a hole in it, anyway? )
