Hey guys I decided to change my tranny and diff fluids today. A wise choice too haha. That diff fluid was black and hella stinky. I need help though... I think i'm supposed to pour in 1.5 qts. I just filled it up until i saw fluid starting to leak out or run out of the filler whole. It might have been 1.5 qts i spilt some earlier so it might be less. Is this fine? Is there a certain amount of torque i need to use to close back the plug?
On the diff i took out drain plug A and the square drain plug B. I read that you need some sort of sealant for the square one, but have no clue what it is called. Is the filler plug the one on top of the Square one or one higher? This was what i saw: Drain plug b and on top was another square and on top was another square so i have no clue which is the filler one. Is there also a certain amount of torque for the filler and drain plugs? Should i just fill it up til it starts to leak out again? Like about 2.5 qts right?

 

Fill it up until it comes out the hole is fine, that's how you're supposed to do it. Just make sure the car is on a fairly level surface.

 

Okay i finished. I bought some permatex sealer thing at autozone i hope it works. I did like what you said and squeezed the liquid in until it leaked out. I didn't tighten it to a certain torque though.

 

what brand fluid and what weight did you use for the rear diff? Im planning changing mines out soon. Thanks

 

not to derail this thread, but my FD has some grinding in some gears when shifting quickly. I have fixed this problem in the past merely by switching to fresh redline gear oil. is there another fluid to consider for the purpose of making the transmission shift smoother?
