will most new aftermarket head units fit in the factory cutout? will this work? also what are the sizes of the rear and dash speakers? is there anything to watch out for when picking out this stuff that might not work with the car? thanks as always!

All aftermarket head units should fit width wise. The height of the factory stereo is twice as tall as the aftermarket ones. You will need something to fill the space that will be above or below the new stereo.
well the previous owner replaced it with a sony tape deck which is now a peice of ****, hence the replacing, so i guess i kinda answered my own question there. but it looks like he had to cut top part of the plastic frame out to make it fit (height wise).
you can fit 6.5 in the front and rear. I just did a full infinity system in mine. For the front you will need the spacers to clear part of the inside of the door/window track and the rear the spacer will only be able to be screwed on 2 points not all three. These are my experience with the infinity speakers only, I cannot speak for other speakers.

If you are replacing the speakers in the dash, you are going to have a tough time... Most decent aftermarket speakers are too deep to fit, and you won't be able to install it on the drivers side. The speaker under the glove box is pretty straightforward though.
As far as your head unit goes, yes, it will fit. Depending on the previous owner's hack job, you will either need a new install kit or possibly a new dash surround... Depends what/how it was cut.
Also, look for a head unit on ebay... You can get something nicer than that crutchfield pioneer for the same money.

I have an 89 gtu. the deck requires a din and 1/2, you can pick up the spacer at any stereo store, it is something they keep on hand. this is what I have in my car. In the factory speaker position in the front dash, I have 2 kicker comp 4.5's I have infinity comps series 6.5's with rotatable tweat. in the back in the pods I have infinity 8's run them as woofers. then I also have 4 fosgate he2 10's directly behind the seat. the 4.5's are powered by a pioneer dehp 700 deck. the 6.5's are powered by infinity component amps. the 8's are powered by a rockford bd 500.2 the 10's are powered by a rockford bd100.a1 if you want the schematics I have the cad plans, and I can take pictures of the system as well. it hit's in the 160 range depending on how much they allow you to rev the engine.......
i dont have the door speakers, its an s4. i found this site, www.hookedontronics.com, that has everything real cheap. im not looking to make some crazy bumpin system, just something that sounds good. i was planning on that pioneer head unit, and infinity speakers in the dash and rear.
