Angry Stereo install broke my REAR WIPER/ Map lights!

I was installing a stereo the other week, but think i may have shorted out something behind the dash. here's how it happened.

-A friend was installing the stereo while we were sitting in a parking lot, and then while driving (not smart i know).
-Before the install, my map lights near the sunroof controls worked fine, now they DONT! and when the car is running, and i click the lights to turn them on, 2 of the IDIOT lights come on in the warning light cluster!, WTF!?!?
-Also, at the very same time, my rear wiper quit working, always worked before, now nothing.

I checked all my fuses, none are burnt out, but it looks like some may be missing?, anyone have good fuse diagrams for an 86 gxl 5speed?

the thing i dont understand is what i couldve done with the wires that are exposed behind the dash (stereo wires) to affect the map lights and rear wiper?

any ideas would be great! Thanks alot! -Matt

It is very hard to say, we need more information on what was installed, how was installed, and what cables, tapes, butt connectors, etc was used and even then it is very hard to say (at least for me) what going on wihtout looking at the installation.

Now remove everything, and see if the problem persist. Also after removing everything (the sound system) check for all fuses!

Rear wiper is on its own circuit and fuse so I doubt its relayed unless you replaced the speakers in the rear as well.

The dome lights and map lights are on the same power circuit as well, so do the dome lights still work or are just the map lights out??? If th dome lights are out as well, then I would say that that the room fuse is blown which also powers the constant 12V+ circuit to the radio.

This is a classic example of if you don't know what you are doing you should not be installing car stereo, or people that think they will save a couple of buck by doing it themselves instead of paying a professional shop to install can end up costing thiersleves a lot more time and money on the long run.

There are two fuses that power the stereo... so if you only checked one, you havn't checked enough.

again, does the dome light work in the car??? not the map lights, but the dome light... does it work???

my left turn signal went out when i bought my car , on this car my hazard light controler caused everything to mess up , im having it fixed wensday , is there anything else that dont werk , like your running lights(Dash lights) or anything cause theres a little black rectangle box to the left of your fuse box, it may need replacing , $49.95 for a new one !

Thats the CPU, it is very easy to fix, and spare ones are usually found for under $30 on ebay or any wrecking yard.

Icemark, where are both of the fuses for the stereo located, and does it matter that the sterreo does actually work? Again, i'm looking for a fuse diagram for an 86 gxl, i havent been able to find one yet.

No, the dome light doesnt work, and i checked all the fuses, theyre all good, but there are a few empty spots where fuses COULD go, which fuse is the room fuse, and which is the stereo fuse?

I haven't had time to search the posts here and find the Fuse box layout for you... I'll try and find it tonight if someone else hasn't posted it by then.
