steering rack question

steering rack question

well guys this is my story! my rack and pinion been broken for a year ,it has a lot of freeplay and i decide to get another one! new =$299 ,rebuilt=$130 , used=$40 .well i'm in a budget now ! i'm using all my money left to my project car !,well i decide to get a used from a local salvage yard for $40 inclued 30 days warranty it is in very good shape an it works ! .Here is my question: can i re-grease everything in there? i'm replacing the rack boots too. any ideas will help!

Grease anything with a Zerk fitting on it!! As far as INSIDE the rack, that's lubricated by the fluid.

Manual or power? If power, the rack can be greased, and if not using fluid anymore you can pull the servo valve out, remove all inner seals, and pack the whole thing with grease, including the 3 bearings. Gives a very unique "road terrain" feel to the steering...
