I'm having some issues with my 88 vert. When i first got the car a few weeks ago, it needed an alignment really bad. It shook pretty hard over 60 mph and would naturally veer left. Whenever I would change lanes left on the freeway, it would shake like crazy...super crazy like the wheel had just flown off. Driving around under 60 was fine, no shakes, nothing. I got an alignment last week and everything went away. I could go over 60 with no shimmy and could make left turns without it vibrating me to death. When I went to work this afternoon, i make a left turn on the interstate and the shake is back. Im not really sure what to think. I know I need new tires, but I'm not really sure why steering left would make a difference. Going straight and steering right doesnt do anything, its all smooth. But the second i steer left, the car shakes. The source of the shaking seems to be coming from the front right wheel area. Anybody have any ideas of what is going on?

 

...try going to Discount Tire and having your wheels balanced...

 

Have your tie rods checked out.Could be your left inner tie rod.And try rotating your tires too,may give you an idea if it's your wheel balance.

Also don't forget to check your wheel bearings.

 

Jack the suspect wheel off the ground.
Push & pull it every direction to check for any loose connections or bearings.
Spin the tire & check for bulges in the tread or sidewall.

 

Is the tire rubbing the fenderwell? Left turns would cause the right tire to push in towards the engine bay and fenderwell.

 

The tires were rotated when I had the alignment, and they put the shittiest ones in the front, so they werent going to splode whilest driving. I had to jack up the car the other day for starter issues (the nut fell off!) and I checked out the wheel, its solid. While driving today, the magic number seemed to be 60 mph. After that the shimmy would return. Right now i'm thinking that I just need to get new tires, because one is running low on tread.

 

1. buy new tires.
2. have wheels re-balanced.

 

I had the same problem on the passenger front on left turns...turned out to be the ball joint on that side...all the other suggestions are good too...does it make popping sounds sometimes when you hit a bump? In all these answers in this thread lies the answer...good luck dude...
