Starting problems. Any Idea??

I think the Rx7 I use as a daily driver has messed up on me. I'm pretty sure its the starter, but I wanted to post on here to see if y'all think so too. My RxVert starter has been acting weird on me, It would act like the battery is low on one try of starting it, then a couple of seconds later, It would sound like its getting full power, then bog down.. so, me being goofy (and It worked on my 400000mi Ford explorer) I tried hitting the starter a couple of times with the jack lifter bar in the trunk. of course that didn't work. solonoid woudn't even click after that.. So, before I spend a $150 on a starter, any ideas what I should check out as well, like what would cause the starter to slow down, etc. Thanks guys

also, forgot to mention, I had the starter tested and It came on ok there.. the solonoid didn't pop the wheel out the first time they tested it, but after that it popped out every try.

I had the same problem recently, the starter would crank slow with a charged battery and would occasionally speed up. Just when it would try to fire, the starter would bog down. When it was hit while cranking it sped up. It eventually started making a whirring noise so i got it rebuilt. Started fine and cranked fast.

Be happy i got my rebuilt for $220, gotta love england. A new one ranged from $260-500.

Id check yr connections at the bare minimum, but I think the starter is shot.

It actually Just clicks now. rarely it works, but mostly, you just hear the relays under the dash click(not the starter). starter sounds good though when it works, just doesn't work 95% of the time.
