starting problems...

ok so I have a 90 N/A and it's been down for a good 4 months or so. It ran fine when I parked it, the engine was just rebuilt about 20-30k ago, but I had to replace the drivetrain. I finally got the new tranny and starter in and went to crank it up but it wouldn't start... It turns over just fine but it won't kick up. I still have the exhaust off at the headers and it pours white smoke out (unburnt fuel) until it floods itself and I have to unflood it. Also when I give it about 1/4 throttle it acts like it wants to kick up, but it just doesn't quite make it... any ideas as to what my problem might be? The car is about an hour and a half away at my ex's house so I don't really have much of chance to mess w/ it too much. I just need to get it running so I can get it away from there!

Psh, push/pull start it, you can clamp a vice grip on the fuel line that comes off the fuel filter (turns off the fuel to unflood it) and just crank, it should clear it self doing it this way. You might have to floor it while the line is clamped off depending on how flooded it is. Once it starts and begins to rev up unclamp the line before it actually does the opposite of flooding and leans out and dies. But hey if it does lean out and die you'll know its not flooded anymore .or Do the traditional take out the fuses and crank with it floored then put them back in and try to start it. Above all I say just push or pull start it then drive it to get some good gas in it.

The vise grips are a new idea to me.
Otherwise, search for de-flooding procedure on this forum.

I don't think flooding is the problem, just a symptom... I properly unflooded it (take EGI fuse and spark plugs out, crank until clear) several times and it still wouldn't start. What would be the next thing to check?

PS I also don't think it's compression, being as the engine is still fairly new, and when I take the spark plug wires off and ground them to the block I get a good, clean, blue spark while the engine is cycling over so I don't think it's spark either... any other ideas? maybe the AFM? TPS? I replaced the AFM a couple of years back w/ a used one... is this a common reaccurring problem? I'm going to try to start it w/ the AFM unplugged when I go back this weekend... When it went out before the car would only start w/ it unplugged, and then it ran really rough and backfired a lot. other than that though, idk.... car is bone-stock S5 N/A

It shouldn't run without the AFM plugged in should it? If i unplug mine, the car stalls out immediately. I don't think the ECU even uses the AFM for the first 30 seconds, it's in closed loop mode. I think you can rule out the AFM, but sorry I dont have any ideas, just comments.

and BTW, it's an s5. you don't have to pull the EGI fuse to de-flood it, just floor it.
