Starting engine while under the hood??

Is there an easy way to start or crank over the engine while working under the hood? The reason i ask is i need to check compression... however, i'm not able to find an assistant on this side of town. Could crank over manually i suppose, but i doubt i'd get good readings.

i bought this thing at schucks here in wa state and it came with this controller that you could hook up to the starter and then it would turn the starter so that you could check compression with the other hand.

It's called a remote engine starter. Most any auto parts store will have one.

??? The compression tester I have has a remote starter on it. Just ground it and hook it to your starter.

A 87RX7, without theft protection, will have, under the Trail Coil assy, an electrical plug with a Blue jumper device in it. If you pull that jumper off you'll see that there is a black/white wire in that six socket connector. That black/white wire goes directly to your starter solenoid.

So, if you got a piece of wire, and crimped a blade connetor on one end and inserted that into the black/white wires socket, and then stripped the other end of that wire, and touched that end to the Positive post of the battery, the starter WILL turn over whether or not the key is in the on position or not. Been there, done that.

In the online 88fsm, that socket I talk about is called F-03 on page 50-16.

Even if the car has theft protection, if you remove that plug from the Starter Cut Relay, the same thing can be done.
