Starting car without key

I have a salvage car that I've been thinking about making a racecar out of. It runs great and I start it from time to move it around my yard. Well I lost the key and I need to move it so I took a screw driver and jammed it into the ignition thinking I could force it into start mode, no go. The console is long gone and the steering lock was disabled long ago.

The wires into the back of the ignition switch are clearly visible and I thought I could just cut them loose and put the correct ones together to start it but I am not sure which ones to put together to equal run and which one to add to turn the starter.

Basically anyone know how to hot wire a 2nd gen? Too bad in my youth I didn't steal cars this would be a piece of cake.

Thanks, Jamie

Black wire is the main power feed , Black with white strip is the wire to power up the whole car, Black with red strip goes to the starter circuits. To get the car in ON/Ignition, connect the Black to the Black w/white strip. To start the car, touch the Black w/red until the car goes on.

like they are hard cars to steal....

that is why you should install an alarm, even though they don't do jack you would be surprised how many thiefs will pass on a car with an alarm.

it is too easy, i agree. I simply put in a battery kill switch w/ key under the dash disableing the starter motor when removed, but it still powers alarm and radio

lol, I have 2 battery cut switches, one in plain sight and another hidden right next to the batter in the storage bins, When my car was broken into they ripped apart the steering colum and couldnt start it when the kill switch with the key was just sitting there under the head unit lol

For some reason that doesn't comfort me. Add to that the 5 sec trick to get in the door(which I never really figured out) and that fuel cut off switch doesn't seem like that bad of an idea all of a sudden.

Give me three Mazda keys from different RX-7 and I bet I can use one to start at least two of the three cars.

I got real stupid when shopping during lunch and left the keys in the ignition and locked the doors. I went back in the store and bought a common screwdriver to open my drivers door. Took almost less effort than the regular key.

Geez people, do you even realize you are telling thieves HOW TO STEAL YOUR CAR MORE EASIER???

Replace the ignition lock.
It's not that hard.
Now you have a working ignition lock and key to go with it.

Take the steering column cover off. Unscrew the ignition switch from the ignition cylinder and use a small flat head screwdriver to turn it.

Pic is the ignition switch seperate from the ignition cylinder
