Starter upgrades??

Wondering if anyone has replaced our weaker starting system as I dont want to just replace existing parts for the same price as upgrading . I have an S4 with s5 block and all emissions removed and stock starting system , just clicks no turning . Thanks

you should make sure your grounds are good 1st, then you shouldnt have any problem,. or maby you can try heavier gauge wire on the starter,

Have you bridged the + terminal on the starter (from the battery) to the starter solenoid to see if it turns over with no problem (done in neutral ) ?

I have redone all engine harnesses my self ground are good. looking into upgrading to a stronger system along with my alt . I already read the prob related to the starter , it has to do with the relay setup if I recall correctly. Not looking to just repair a weak system , that will fail again . Why is it so much easier to start a 7 pushing it or pulling it? Imho the starter doesnt have the torque to turn the motor efficiently enough.

I have had RX7s for close to 20 years, I have owned quite a bit of them, and I have to say I have never thought to myself "I need a STRONGER starter"

maybe you need a better battery or you should just accept the way the car starts, there are guys with 500-600-700hp cars with stock starters

On my car,I relocated the Battery to the passenger bin.
Now,Stay with me...
I took the stock wiring and hooked on IN the engine bay,and Ran it allllll thhhhheee waaaaay to the Passenger bin (wires run under the car).
I Guess what I am trying to say is that,"IF" the Rx7 Starter is so bad, then WHY would it Start up the car with a LONG run of Wire like that??
Your Problem lays in your wiring,Not in the stock starting system.

increasing the 8g by 5 ft would create that prob due to resistance , you would lose amperage on that long of a run , hence why I went up to 4g . My question has yet to be what is the problem , more how can i upgrade this starting system.
I would never run wires under a car or externally . Bad idea

Rob mentioned the thread, but here's a direct link to the fix I used: https://www.rx7club.com/showpost.php...9&postcount=39. It's been going strong for 6 months.

The RX-7 starter is an upgrade for other cars actually since it spins at a high speed. There are companies that modify them to bolt up to other bellhousings. You'll have a hard time finding a better starter, and it's just not necessary.

^ the relay fix is also used on FD's which are really bad for the whole "click click start" thing

It's also used on old VW Bugs. You can even find relay kits designed specifically for this.

Yah the click click start is the bullshit part , thanks for that link 88. Hmm what do the 26b's use??
Even with the relay fix , on my first and second 7 they crank crank crank like an old 350 before they start. But if you pop the clutch a lot more torque is put down and starts almost instantly. I just figured with 24 years off better technology they would have upgraded the start time like most current efi cars and trucks.

The 26b, like most race cars, probably used an external starter.
