Starter!

I have a 1989 S5, I just swapped a t2 transmission into it, I used the NA flywheel (cuz i had a lightweight one) and got the conversion clutch from RB (splined for T2 trans but in the NA diameter). my problem is that the t2 starter motor does not contact the flywheel ring gear. which starter should I use for this application?

You must use the n/a starter if the diameter of your flywheel is the n/a.

the na starter wont mate to the t2 trans, at least not an fc NA starter, the solenoid is on the opposite side of the starter. I think it has more to do with the mounting location. the t2 starter is mounted further out. does fd starter have a bigger pinion gear on the starter? what about the fa, fb, and sa22c?

did you swap it from an auto tranny? because normally the automatic tranny starters have a shorter reach then manually tranny starters

no it was a manual, the problem is that the t2 starter is located roughly 5mm further away from flywheel than the NA starter is. I need to find a starter with a pinion gear that is oversized. Normally I would have just swapped my NA flywheel, and clutch for a t2 flywheel and clutch, but racing beat sold a conversion clutch plate http://www.racingbeat.com/resultset....rtNumber=12527 so I assumed the swap was possible without a flywheel swap.

thanks for all the ideas guys, I think I'm gonna call Racing Beat on monday and get a for sure answer. I don't think they would sell a clutch disc that can't be used. So I'll chat em up.

Thanks!

man all the answers are wrong.

Turbo Tranny = you must use a Turbo Flywheel and Turbo or auto tranny starter.

A non turbo flywheel would never work with the Turbo tranny.

Wrong size, wrong thickness, wrong, wrong wrong... Even the clutchs are different.
