A starion really isn't that cheap.

Spend the little bit extra and buy a better intercooler, the hardest part is piping it. If you want to do it cheaply, combine two stock top mounts, and front mount that.

The rx7 stock top mount intercooler is a good intercooler, but it's in a bad spot.

Alot of your cost will be piping and connectors. Spend a little extra and put a quality intercooler on there. From what I've heard the Starion IC is not very good, I think most guys have gone with the NPR and seem happy with it.

I'd look around on the forum and research it. You'll also get a good idea of how others have piped/installed the IC--there are many options. I had my setup posted here but the mods moved it over to the first gen section--even though I'm running a S4 setup.

Good Luck,

Scott

The Starion intercooler sucks. It looks larger than stock but there is a tradeoff. You are going to get a larger pressure drop through it. Look at how many rows there are through the core for air to flow through. Now compare this to the amount that the stock intercooler has. The stock one has more flow. The stock core also has fins within the cooler itself (called turbulators) that aid in heat transfer to the core. the Starion cooler doesn't have these. The Starion cooler may be larger so it appears it can cool better, but the added restriction will more than cancel it out if not make power worse. If you use 2 Strion cores welded together in parallel, you'd be fine but just 1 won't cut it in the flow department.
